On January 31, Acting Rector of ASPU, Professor Srbuhi Gevorgyan met postgraduate students and degree seekers matriculated for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Srbuhi Gorgyan congratulated the postgraduates and degree seekers, emphasizing that the purpose of the meeting was to reveal and outline the problems encountered during the organization of the educational process and during the school-university collaboration.
She hailed the participation of Vesa-Matti Sarenius, Professor at the University of Oulu, Finland, in the meeting, in that context stressing the long-standing cooperation and its results between the two universities in question.
The acting rector noted that during the cooperation the parties have reviewed educational programmes, curricula and the process of training specialists. In addition, they have conducted exchange of lecturers, administrative staff and students which gave a new impetus in terms of organizing teaching and education process.
"This year marks the 100th anniversary of the university. Our motto should be "365 days in school with schoolchildren. Today we marked the start [of the initiative] at School N135 with an event organized by the Faculty of Primary Education,” Srbuhi Gevorgyan said. In that context, she urged the postgraduate students and degree seekers to develop professionally and formulate practical problems at school together with teachers and pupils.
The acting rector assured the presentees that during her tenure in office she will see to it that all expectations of postgraduate students and degree seekers as well as requirements of the university are addressed.
Srbuhi Gevorgyan expressed hope that the ideas of postgraduate students and degree seekers and their supervisors will not only ensure professional and personal growth, but will also better the quality of organization of educational process at ASPU. "Pedagogy, teaching methods and psychology are the priorities with which ASPU differs from other universities," she stressed.
Head of the Chair of Pedagogy, Professor Aida Topuzyan expressed hope that the years of study at ASPU will be fruitful for postgraduate students and degree seekers and will further enrich their knowledge.
“Our experience shows that postgraduate students are a little bit slow and do not defend their theses in time. I assure you that everything depends on you,” Professor Topuzyan said. She advised everyone to be consistent, purposeful and proactive be able to get the scientific degree in due time.
The professor added that all conditions are provided at ASPU to encourage, help and support a working person. She reminded once again that the mission of the Pedagogical University differs from the mission of other universities. “A good specialist must be able to pass on his knowledge to others. As postgraduate students and degree seekers you have dual responsibility: start working from the very first day, set the right goals and knowing yourselves,” Aida Topuzyan said adding that they will overcome the obstacles together.
Professor Kamo Vardanyan, Head of the Research Centre, Doctor of Psychology, stressed in his speech that ‘this is not a bachelor's or master's degree programme, rather, it is education of completely different quality, during which a person shows his abilities and independence and portrays his future. “You are our future scientists, teachers and lecturers. From that point of view, we attach importance to this process and take great responsibility for your activity,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by scientists, well-known not only at ASPU but also in the scientific circles who have had significant contribution to the development of science in the country. Professor Igor Karapetyan, ScD in Pedagogy, advised the post-graduate students and degree seekers to use the opportunities offered to young scientists, to participate in international programmes and involve their supervisors as well, to have their articles and reports published in international journals.
The professor noted that in recent years the university started a good tradition: postgraduate degree courses are mainly taught by doctors, and postgraduate students and degree seekers have a lot to learn from them.
Ruzan Sargsyan, a degree candidate at the Chair of Armenian History, thanked the ASPU administration and staff for their constant encouragement and great opportunities provided. She expressed hope that each of them will do their utmost in their fields of activity.
