6th literary awards ceremony held in Yerevan

Results of the 6th awards ceremony by Haig Naccashian Literary Foundation have been summed up at the Museum of Literature and Art named after Yeghishe Charents.

The ceremony initiated by the ASPU Spyurk (Diaspora) Scientific-Educational Center is held for the 6th time, with the aim to appreciate the new-type literary works of Armenian writers in Armenia and Diaspora in Prose and Poetry.

The awards ceremony was attended by writers, literary critics, representatives of the education sector, readers and students.

Professor Suren Danielyan, Director of the Spyurk (Diaspora) Scientific-Educational Center, says Haig Naccashian’s return is endless. “Today, we are paying back his "debt", and although he is no longer with us, we consider him to be present,” he said.

Suren Danielyan also spoke about Haig Naccashian’s literary, cultural, publishing, and editorial activities and stressed that Naccashian had a real passion for literature and through it ‘awarded’ readers the Armenian nature as an internal passport.

Vahagn Sargsyan, director of the Museum of Literature and Art named after Yeghishe Charents, says he is just discovering Haig Naccashian as a writer, especially the urbanist Naccashian, whose concerns, thoughts and problems are connected with the nation.

Haig Naccashian’s wife, Sosi Naccashian, congratulated and thanked the participants of the ceremony via a video call, stressing that they were able to create and publish in these difficult times.

Knarik Abrahamyan, Associate Professor at the Chair of Armenian New and Modern Literature and its Teaching Methods after Vache Partizuni, presented the candidates for “the Diaspora Armenian Novelist and Public Figure” award, the originality and peculiarities of their writing.

Among the many works the jury recognized Vrezh Sarukhanyan’s Agravakar (Crow Stone) and Hayk Sirunyan’s Chor April (Dry April) as winners.

Later on, Anush Petrosyan and Taguhi Aghasyan, both students of the Faculty of Philology, made a unique analysis and drew parallels between the literary works of the winning writers and modern times, assuring everybody that they are loyal readers.

Vrezh Sarukhanyan, the author of Agravakar (Crow Stone), says the awards ceremony sows seeds of kindness that will give many more sprouts. He thinks that everyone should do their duty in their place.

"When we unite and feel our strength, the worries and concerns about our Motherland that often interfere with our daily routine become secondary. We have no time and right to give up. This was the main lesson we learned today," said Professor Suren Danielyan.

At the end of the ceremony, Tatev Harutyunyan, a student of the Chair of Music, performed "Bingyol" – an Armenian folk song.
