ASPU Scientific Council holds meeting

The Scientific Council of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) held a regular meeting on February 28. The first item on the agenda was the election of the heads of the Chair of Directing, and the Chair of Mathematics and its Teaching Methods.

Gevorg Tadevosyan, Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Scientific Council, and Mezhlum Yeritstyan, Chairman of the Committee for Natural Sciences, introduced the candidates and their scientific and pedagogical activity.

The Council members then listened to the candidates and their programs and plans for the new term of office, possible collaborations, etc.

By a secret ballot, Armen Elbakyan, Acting Head of the Chair of Directing, was re-elected. He was the only candidate for the position. Also, Lusine Ghulghazaryan, Acting Head of the Chair of Mathematics and its Teaching Methods, was elected to the position.

By a decision of the Scientific Council, Aida Hovhannisyan and Hasmik Leyloyan were elected Professors of the Chairs of Directing and Music, respectively. Mariam Ispiryan, Head of the Committee for Science, Education and Methodology, spoke about their activity.

The Scientific Secretary then presented the next item on the agenda: approval of academic ranks and titles. By a secret ballot, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Sevada Sargsyan was granted the title of Professor, and Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Anzhela Minasyan – the title of Associate Professor.

The meeting participants also presented a report on the process of organizing research and publications at ASPU.

Mariam Ispiryan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Education and Science, presented the results of scientific activities in 2024 and then spoke about the steps and measures planned for 2025.

The vice-rector stressed that ASPU, adhering closely to the policy it adopted, is carrying out numerous initiatives in the scientific and education sphere, ensuring continuous qualitative growth.

Speaking about the University's participation in the programs funded by the Higher Education and Science Committee Mariam Ispiryan said that funding has increased 4 times in 2025 compared to 2021, and twice compared to 2024.

Mariam Ispiryan noted that the six base themes of the University, which have merged into three institutes, will continue in 2025. Taking into account the death of the Head of the Scientific Laboratory of Linguistic Research, as well as the characteristics of the University and the main directions of the strategic development plan, the above-mentioned lab will soon be renamed the Scientific Laboratory of Pedagogical and Psychological Research. The Higher Education and Science Committee shall give its legal formulation in 2026, based on the results of publications in 2025.

In her speech, the vice-rector also dwelt on thematic funding of programs, presented three new programs and one target program that has been reaffirmed for continuation in 2025. In 2024, 15 scientific conferences were held at ASPU, with two being organized jointly with other scientific institutions.

Mariam Ispiryan then presented the total number of articles published by ASPU professors, researchers, postgraduate students and degree seekers in 2024, the comparison chart of articles published in peer-reviewwed and indexed international research journals between 2019 and 2024, and added that the University strives to be included in the list of the world's best universities with the QS World University Rankings.

The meeting participants also discussed the criteria for attesting the academic staff, the seven scientific journals published at the University, the activity of professional councils, and the trainings conducted at ASPU. The vice-rector voiced hope that the positive dynamics will be maintained in 2025 as well.

The Scientific Council approved the changes to the procedure for the preparation and evaluation of master's theses at ASPU, and five topics for dissertations.

According to tradition, ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan congratulated all those who are celebrating their birthday this month and gave them certificates of Associate Professor and Professor.
