“Children bring happiness to families. Their absence in families causes numerous emotional and psychological traumas,” Kamo Vardanyan, Doctor of Psychology (PsyD), Head of the ASPU Research Center, said during an event organised at the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography.
At the invitation of Mr Vardanyan, embryologist and geneticist Inessa Karapetyan delivered a lecture at the Faculty about techniques and methods of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). She spoke about the differences between artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization, their application, juxtaposing theoretical knowledge with video presentations.
The experienced specialist, who has taken numerous training courses abroad, also spoke about the possibilities and development of in vitro fertilization in Armenia, available technologies and indicators, at the same time assuring everyone that Armenia has high-quality centres dealing with reproductive health issues.
Inessa Karapetyan added that although numerous advances and innovations made in the worlds of sciences, nature is all-powerful.
Kamo Vardanyan stressed the importance of the lecture, saying such events enable students to learn about the latest novelties in science personally from lecturers.
“Issues of motherhood are widely discussed within various circles of society but most people do not have enough information and knowledge about it. Psychological aspects of childbirth are often distorted causing difficulties and complicated situations,” Inessa Karapetyan said. She wished that biologists could visit reproductive health centres when they start the practical part of Master's Degree thesis.
Ruzanna Sadoyan, Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography, thanked the guest lecturer for sharing her knowledge and professional experience with the teaching staff and students. Then addressing the students she said, “As future mothers, be sure that nature is all-powerful. As biologists, be more aware of advances in science which are also capable of changing human destinies.”
