“People’s most important meetings are those with children” the BA student of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology Misha Tadevosyan shares the opinion of the pedagogue Yanush Korchak in his competition on the topic “A child as an individual and a friend”.
The latter was announced as the winner during the event organized on the International Day for Protection of Children with the participation of students of the Faculties of Primary Education and Education Psychology and Sociology.
The future pedagogues introduced their beliefs regarding communication with children, their education, and familiarization therewith emphasizing the idea of understanding children as individuals with their principles, interests and requirements, and accepting them as friends in the learning process.
“We have a lot to learn from them. Each and every question of children is so interesting, unique and attractive, that it is impossible not to get into their inner-world and not to perceive their way of thinking”, the students continued and highlighted that childhood was the best period of life, and children were the best of the human kind.
We need to admit children’s right of mistakes, the fact that we are grown-ups does not mean that we are perfect. Years ago we were children, too.
The Head of the Chair of Professional Education and Applied Pedagogy Aida Topuzyan emphasized the day for celebrating the students’ initiative in this very format noticing that the mentioned sermons are aimed particularly at young teachers that were mainly invited guests.
The Doctor of Pedagogy observed that today’s sermons will become an educational and methodological material for students in the course on
“Pedagogical Methodology” in the next academic year.
“Our students, a part of whom will already become your colleagues in September are willing to share with their ideas with you. The topic of the sermon is very important and actual; unfortunately, culture towards children is not still completely formulated, the concept of their high value is not rooted yet. In a number of schools teachers are still leading, their relations are not partnership and cooperative”.
Committee of the sermon-competition “A child as an individual and a friend” made a selection based on the following assessment criteria: the compliance of the context to the topic, art of rhetoric, ability to excite the audience, appearance.
The third prize went to the second year MA student of Pedagogy and Sociology Arusyak Gevorgyan, the second prize went to the third year student of Pedagogy and Psychology /Pre-school/ Knarik Nikoghosyan; and the first prize went to the 3rd year student of the Social Pedagogy Misha Tadevosyan.
Furthermore, the Chairman of the jury, Vice-Rector Srbouhi Gevrogyan presented the winners in three nominations that were selected by the invited teachers.
The freshman of the Social Pedagogy Ani Stepanyan was announced the winner of the “Audience Sympathy”, the MA student of the same Department Yelena Khachatryan was announced as the “Best Orator”, and Misha Tadevosyan won in the nomination “The Most Exciting Sermon”.
In addition, the Vice-Rector Srbouhi Gevorgyan emphasized the fact that within a psychological- pedagogical context the students tried to touch the main propaganda provisions which were passed by their senior friends –lecturers throughout the years.
Doctor of Pedagogy, Professor Julietta Gyulamiryan, who was also a member of the jury, considered that the students’ active disposition regarding the topic and the activities implemented in the reporting process were quite creditable. Moreover, she advised to be more independent and to generate their own provisions.
What is more, the chorus of the Faculty of Primary Education made a musical performance during the event.
And last but not least, in the course of the sermon –competition the premiere of a song dedicated to the soldiers, who passed away in the four-day war, was made; the author of the song was the Head of the Chair of Armenian Language and its Teaching Methods Ashot Galstyan, and the composer of the music was his son, student of the Faculty of Art Education Vardan Galstyan.
