The last extended Academic Board session of the current year was held at the Pedagogical University, during which the Rector of the University Rouben Mirzakhanyan presented his report to the Board members, the lecturers’ and professors’ team, and to the student, where he presented the 2017 income and expenditure implementation and budget estimates for 2018.
The Head of the University explained the changing amounts of financial income and outflow for 2013-2017 with the decrease in the number of students in the country. “Despite the fact that throughout years the number of students at the Pedagogical has remained unchanged, it will, however, be impossible to avoid the expected decrease of this number for the upcoming academic year. Nevertheless, the tuition fees will not change in the coming academic year”, officially announced the Rector at the Academic Board session.
Likewise, he considered it as absolute truth that serious progress had been noticed in the academic processes of the University, significant partnership connections had been set in the area of internationalisation, and the students life got on another level.
The Rector considered the annual decrease of the number of students in distant –learning system problematic; as well as, he spoke about the importance of maintaining the contextual part of e-learning and internship programmes.
The Academic Board took a notice of the report delivered by the Head of the University about the activities carried out at the ASPU in 2017. Besides, those present also had the chance to watch a video prepared by the Department of Media and Public Relations providing complete information about the University’s policy, academic innovations, and achievements.
Later on, the Head of the Research Centre Kamo Vardanyan delivered his report about the activities conducted by the Research Centre in 2017.
The speaker introduced the list of current year’s basic and thematic programmes funded by the RA MES SCS, highlighting that there was considerable progress in this respect.
“The Pedagogical conducts scientific activities with thematic and basic financial support within the scope of the research activities on the Chair, grant programs, and particular preferences. The functions of the Research Centre comprise coordination of scientific, research, methodological, expertise and technological activities, development of scientific potential and effective usage thereof in international projects”.
As well as, the Head of the Centre mentioned that they were assisting with the submission of applications for scientific projects and tenders; 11 out of 14 submitted applications received funding for the year of 2018, and the most important out these was the establishment of the Chess Institute at the University, which was a novelty not only in Armenia, but also in the whole region.
In his turn, the Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan emphasized the significance this initiative by the Chair of Chess and Sports and the decision of the Government in regards with creating an international research institute at the University.
Similarly, the Head of the ASPU highlighted the involvement of the University’s best scientific potential and active participation of postgraduate students in the abovementioned activities.
What is more, Kamo Vardanyan spoke about the visit of their foreign partners to the ASPU, training sessions held at the University and in Artsakh State University, international conferences organized by them, published works, articles included in international and reviewing periodicals, and activities for scientific journals.
As well as, he stressed out the importance of the Centre’s initiatives in respect with presentations of books, observing that thereby important scientific manuals become available for wide range of public.
Additionally, Kamo Vardanyan spoke about upcoming changes and innovations in the area of judicial-psychological expertise, as well as in postgraduate educational system.
The Academic Board considered the process of implementation of scientific initiatives financed from the budget at the University as satisfactory and determined to increase the effectiveness of scientific activities, to encourage implementation of joint programmes with international scientific institutions, and to support active involvement of MA and PhD students and Applicants.
Wrapping up the Academic Board session, as a tradition, the ASPU Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan congratulated those who had anniversaries on that day, and wished everybody happy New Year joy, good health and productive work.
