The regular Academic Board session was held at the Pedagogical University.
“Effectiveness of the Chairs should be measured by the number of students involved in research activities”.
Details on the first issue of the agenda regarding the process of organising research and publication activities at the University were presented by Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Srbouhi Gevorgyan.
She introduced the fields of research and scientific-methodological activities at the Faculties and Chairs and added that the University was implementing fundamental, theoretical, practical, experimental scientific and methodological research initiatives in the spheres of pedagogy, psychology, teaching methods of school programmes, cultural studies, information technologies, and other areas of natural sciences in accordance with undergraduate and postgraduate curricula.
In her report she also spoke about all the work conducted to involve lecturers in scientific competitions and students’ works in various manuals, as well as presenting the outcomes to a wide scope of professional society.
“There are 738 articles, 225 of which (SCOPUS, РИНЦ, etc.) are quoted in periodicals, 11 are monographs, 108 are manuals, 61 are books, and these are the publications of the teaching staff, research workers, PhD students and Applicants, the number of which has considerably increased if compared with previous years”, noticed Ms. Srbouhi Gevorgyan and added that the participation of the Professors of the Pedagogical University in international conferences had noticeably grown.
In addition, the Vice –Rector presented the 7 scientific journals of the ASPU, mentioned the planned activities in respect thereto, highlighted the necessity of including a few of them in international databases and improving the overall quality of the articles, as well as raising the importance of expanding their geographic scope.
The Rector of the Pedagogical University Mr. Rouben Mirzakhanyan noticed that there was little involvement of the MA students in scientific publications, while they should be a part of the University’s research activities.
“We should create favourable conditions for our future substitutes. They need to pass a specific school to ensure qualified substitution later on. The effectiveness of the Chairs should be measured with the number of students involved in research activities”, mentioned the Rector and once again recommended to increase interest among students and to motivate them.
“Using the Google Classroom will facilitate students’ activities and will make the lecturers’ work more efficient.”
“Introduction of IT software and hardware equipment, their application and maintenance have continuous nature. Regular monitoring is conducted together with the instalment of modern technologies and tools supporting today’s requirements”, mentioned the Vice –Rector for Personnel Matters and International Cooperation Mr. Ara Yeremyan and spoke about the highly important IT software used.
Google Classroom interactive teaching, the staff access systems to the building and electronic accounting systems, the official website, the students’ radio, etc. –these are the IT systems currently used by various departments and subdivisions of the University, which serve for learning purposes, obtaining information and creating something new.
Likewise, the Vice-Rector highlighted that in the modern teaching processes using information technologies is important not only for the development of learning material, but also for their daily use.
“Information technologies are wonderful means and tools if you have the skills to correctly use and apply them”, added the Vice-Rector and outlined the importance of radio broadcasts prepared by the pupils of the ASPU college and the students of the Department of TV-Radio Journalism, as well as the TV program called “The Formula of Success” that provides a primary solution for the applicants as it is perfect example of expedient use of information technologies.
What is more, the members of the Academic Board emphasized the question of interactive teaching system through the Google Classroom platform and raised their concerns and observations related thereto.
“This system is one of the most important achievements and privileges of the University. Correct application of the system will facilitate the students’ activities and makes the lecturers’ work more efficient”, noticed the ASPU Rector and shared his colleagues’ concerns that the systems needed improvements.
He advised to review the system assessment and questions related to assignments, to arrange meetings and workshops in order to have innovated and improved system for the upcoming academic year.
Other Current Issues
The Vice-Rector Srbouhi Gevorgyan submitted the current dissertation topics and books recommended for publication for the approval of the Academic Board.
In their turns, the Deans of the Faculty of Primary Education and the Faculty of Philology Heghinei Khachatryan and Ashot Galstyan introduced the decisions of the Faculty Councils. Besides, the Academic Board also approved the nominal scholarships for the candidates Anahit Hovakimyan and Lilit Papeyan.
Further on, as a result of a secret ballot, the members of the Academic Board elected Associate Professors, and appointed Doctor, Professor of Medicine Stepan Grigoryan as the Head of the Chair of Logopaedics and Rehabilitation Therapy.
Traditionally, Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan congratulated those who were celebrating jubilees this month.
