Today, the first ASPU Academic Board session was held with new members.
Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan congratulated the newly elected members of the Academic Board, wishing them productive work and fruitful activities.
For the long-term effective work the Rector awarded the “Pedagogical University” medal to the former Secretary of the Academic Board Ms. Hasmik Petrosyan.
“Both the University and the Academic Board have been my second family, and I would like to express my acknowledgements”, mentioned Hasmik Petrosyan and wished good luck for further work of the Academic Board.
Two Professions at a Time
During the session, the ASPU Academic Board approved the procedure of receiving parallel higher education. The Vice-Rector for Academic Processes Mher Melick-Bakhshyan informed that the Chairs and Faculties got preliminary drafts in regards therewith, made their suggestions and supplements.
“Previously, the law on higher and postgraduate education did not ban combining full-time and other forms of education; however, this new procedure defines the general terms and conditions thereof, e.g. such form of education is offered on tuition fee basis and is organized by a credit system”, mentiones the Vice-Rector. Likewise, he adds that the person, who applies for a second higher professional education, is exempted from the modules that he passed previously during the former academic programme, and which are also included in the new programme. Similarly, the person shall pay only for those modules which he will be taking, in accordance with the credit offered by the ASPU for the profession in question.
Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan considered the above-mentioned decision and its implementation important and responsible, at the same time actual and quite attractive for applicants, noticing that it will allow teachers to teach simultaneously two courses at schools with a small number of pupils.
Winners of the “Rouben Sevak” Awards are Announced
The Head of the Chair of Modern and New Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods, Professor Souren Danielyan presented the results of the competition that was taking place for already the second year and noticed that this year 18 written pieces were received for the competition analysing Rouben Sevak’s biography, public work and high literary levels, six out of the 18 works were submitted from the Faculty and two from pupils of the ASPU base college.
“In this competition, as an initial success can be considered the spontaneous indulgent attitude of universal love and hatred towards the overall concept of Sevak and his long-lasting poetic values”, mentioned Professor Danielyan and added that out of all works the ones submitted by students having especially sharp competitive nature, versatile interest of treating the material and discovering it were distinguished.
In accordance with the given criteria, the student of the Faculty of Philology Anna Sargsyan received the first prize; the second prize went to the students of the Faculty Philology and Faculty of Foreign Languages Gohar Amalyan and Astghik Boyajyan, as well as an encouraging prize was awarded to the student of the ASPU base college Milena Barseghyan.
MA Internships will be Improved
The Head of the Internship Division Mr. Vahan Sargsyan introduced the results of organising internships, referring to the professional and educational outcomes thereof, their compliance with the National Qualifications Framework and conformity of internships with the mandatory learning objectives of theses.
The Head of the Centre stated that the MA internships are mostly held at the APSU and referred to the steps aimed at the improvement of the pedagogical internship based on the proposals made from the Faculties.
In addition, Mr. Vahan Sargsyan presented the practice of leading universities from various countries in regards with organization of internships and spoke about such frequently used forms thereby as mentoring, cooperative education, design training. Likewise, the latter spoke about the strengths and weaknesses of organizing internships, its opportunities and challenges, discussed suggestions made in regards with improving the MA internships.
What is more, Rouben Mirzakhanyan particularly referred to reviewing the process of organizing MA internships, emphasizing that it is currently on a non-satisfactory level.
The Rector also mentions that Master’s Degree Education offered in Armenia does not yet correspond to its true nature and content and added that the internships of BA students should be organized at academic and pedagogical institutions. As for graduates of other universities, who currently do their MA programmes at the ASPU, their internships should by all means be organized at pedagogical institutions.
The Rector also insisted on making the process of MA theses defence tougher and staying principal, thus excluding the chances of cheating.
Other current matters
Further on, Rouben Mirzakhanyan traditionally congratulated those, who had anniversaries in the current month, after which he granted higher academic titles on behalf of the Supreme Qualification Committee to the Lecturers Davit Movsisyan, Serine Shogheryan, Anna Adamyan and Narine Babajanyan.
As a result of a secret ballot, the Academic Board selected the Doctor of Philology, Professor Vazgen Hmabardzumyan as the Head of the Chair of Armenian Language and its Teaching Methods, and the President of the RA Artists Union Karen Agamyan as the Head of the Chair of Fine Arts.
Likewise, as a result of voting, academic titles of Professors were presented to the Associate professor Ara Hakobyan, Kamo Vardanyan and Lusine Ghulghazaryan; as well as, Alvard Grigoryan, Gayanei Tsaturyan, Eduard Melckonyan, Susanna Muradyan, Lilit Sarvazyan and Seyran Shahsuvaryan in their turns received the titles of Associate Professors.
And last but not least, the Deans of Faculties submitted for the approval of the Academic Board the list of the candidate students for nominal scholarships.
