Agreements with Pázmány Péter Catholic University

Today, seven agreements for international cooperation were signed between the Pedagogical University and the Pázmány Péter Catholic University.

Within the framework thereof, both Universities undersign starting the dual –certificate of MA programme in “History”; the relevant certificates will be mutually acknowledged in both states.  

According to another agreement, an MA research programme on International Armenian Studies in English language will be introduced at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University; within the scope of cooperation, both Universities plan to establish a mutual Master’s Degree course on History and Culture of Armenia.  

What is more, additional contracts were signed in regards with development of their research potential, process of implementation of international credit mobility programme during summer classes at the Universities, as well as it was confirmed to conduct joint publishing activities and replenishing the PPCU literary fund with Armenian literature.

 The Rector of the Pedagogical University Rouben Mirzakhanyan particularly emphasized the opportunity of awarding double certificates, highlighting their significance for Armenian and European MA students.

 “Signing the agreement was the outcome of our work; throughout years, both Universities have been exchanging groups of students. This is truly a meaningful event in our university life”, mentioned Rouben Mirzakhanyan and assured that they had already discussed the future development areas of the Chair of Armenian Studies at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University.

The Rector of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University Suroumy Sabolch is visiting Armenia for already the third time. He assures that cooperation with the Pedagogical University had tangible results.

“This is a turning point in the histories of both Universities. I have a huge desire that this undertaking not only limits within the scope of University cooperation, but also has great significance in the history of development of both countries,” mentioned Suroumy Sabolch and assured that the Pedagogical University had progressive and rich practice in the sphere of higher education. 

Further on, Suroumy Sabolch granted a prouniversitate diploma to the APSU Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan for the considerable contribution in the development of history of Armenian culture and emphasized that for the first time this kind of diploma was granted to a foreign university rector.

The ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan in his turn, reminded that in 2015 the Roman Pope Francis 1st granted the title of “The Archimandrite of the Cosmic Church” to the medieval Armenian clergyman, theologian, poet, musician and philosopher St. Grigor Narekatsi [St. Gregory of Narek], after which Mr. Mirzakhanyan awarded the Rector of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University Suroumy Sabolch the book by Grigor Narekatsy the “Book of Lamentations” the external design of which was jointly made by the ASPU lecturers and students.

The student of the Chair of Armenian Studies of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Jerali Jolta spent one semester of studies at the Pedagogical University. Comparing the learning processes of both Universities, Jolta observed that the main difference was the methodology.

“In Armenia, we mostly worked in small groups, which was very important and effective. Meanwhile, in addition to professional knowledge we also learned Armenian and Russian languages, and Armenian Culture. Likewise, it was very important and pleasant to travel around Armenia, to communicate and to get familiarized with people. As well as, direct communication was also essential”, mentioned Jerali Jolta and promised to visit Armenia again, where she already managed to make some good friends.  

The first year MA student of the ASPU Faculty of History and Law Marinei Sahradyan studied her first semester at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Hungary.  Summarizing foreign education she assured that education abroad provided them a wide scope of mind and good chances of improving and developing knowledge.

“If I have the opportunity, I’d like to continue education there”, she mentioned to the future historians and added that differences between the educational systems of both countries were mainly in the forms of passing on the knowledge.

 To conclude, we would also like to mention that a cooperation memorandum was signed between the Pázmány Péter Catholic University and the Artsakh State University.
