“Stage Speech is the artistic speech made on the stage, which is based on literate speech. All that we hear on the TV, often misleads understanding who we are and what is Armenian speech”, mentioned the Professor of Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography Anna Heqeqyan during her meeting with the 3rd year students of Department of Pedagogy and Methodology of the Pedagogical University’s Faculty of Primary Education today.
She noticed that even though Armenian language spelling and punctuation is taught at schools, still the pupils never learn what is considered as a literate speech and urged for the future pedagogues to pay major attention to that issue.
During the topic on “Artistic Speech and Reading” Anna Heqeqyan thoroughly explained the rules of oral speech after which referred to intonation and mentioned that that was how languages differed from one another.
“It is very important to have a literate oral speech. Words can be borrowed, and that is not a tragedy, but the distortion of intonation can bring up the wrench of national spirit.”
Likewise, the Professor considers it as a mandatory requirement for teachers to have a well-cultured and “polite” voice observing that among the specialists there is such a term as “clever voice”. Even from the voice one can realize whether the person is educated or not.
Anna Heqeqyan considered it as another issue the continuity of speech and advised to have more pauses during the speech, as it was ensuring the relevant feedback, making the message and the continuity of speech more distinct.
The Professor of the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography also emphasized the “shading” of sounds, so that the listener could see what the speech was about, as well as she advised the future pedagogues to be able and to love working with words as they have their colour, importance and weight.
Later on, during the master-class the students had a practical opportunity to understand and to correct the shortcomings and faults of the oral speech.
“In addition to speaking with beautiful voice and with an Armenian intonation one must be able to logically bring to the pupils the idea that is written in the text. One must master all rules of reading aloud in order to read, and these rules are plenty. Teachers’ work is heavy but at the same time a thankful job”, added the speaker.
In her turn the Head of the Chair of Armenian Language and its Teaching Methods Julietta Gyulamiryan expressed acknowledgements for organizing the meeting considering it quite meaningful, and full of messages during which the presented material was interesting for everybody.
