Issues related to the structural elements and contextual requirements for graduation works and Master’s theses are in the focus of discussions during meetings with the professors of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU).
Today the new procedure for preparation for and assessment of graduation works of Bachelor’s students and Master’s theses at the ASPU was introduced to the staffs of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics and the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography, as well as the staff of the University Chair of First Aid, Emergency and Civil Protection.
Vice-Rector Marianna Harutyunyan assured everyone that the new format will facilitate the organizing of the process, making the activities of students and their academic supervisors coordinated. She also emphasized that the previous complexities will remain in the past — the activities are smaller in scale, adapted to the current demands and close to internationally accepted criteria, from the perspective of substance.
Marianna Harutyunyan noted that quantity must not be replaced with quality in any case; the new procedures are aimed at meeting the objectives to improve quality, and the University is ready to provide methodical support in this regard. “Every graduation work must serve as a small contribution to the development of pedagogy in the Republic of Armenia, and this is the target in the mission of the University,” she noted.
During the meeting, Advisor to the Rector Hakob Tadevosyan thoroughly presented the structural elements of graduation works and Master’s theses, talked about their differences and attached importance to the specific formulation of the research question and the question addressing the aim of the research, emphasizing that this will provide the opportunity to direct the gathering and analysis of data in a coordinated manner.
In both cases, Hakob Tadevosyan attached importance to the right selection of a topic and its compliance with the criteria of the school curriculum and the issues in pedagogy.
There were discussions and recommendations regarding the new procedures during the meeting.
