Ara Gevorgyan gives concert in Sydney

Recently, Ara Gevorgyan, Head of the Chair of Music at ASPU, Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia, renowned Armenian musician and songwriter, had a concert in Sydney, Australia, which was dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial and the Defense Army of the Artsakh Republic.

All proceeds from the concert will go to the armed forces of the Artsakh Republic.

This was the musician’s second concert in Australia. The first concert was performed in 2006. During the concert, the Armenian and foreign audience heard 21 works by the famous musician, as well as his new works, including “Shushi.” During the performance, Armenian dhol players were accompanied by famous musician and Darbouka (Middle Eastern tabla) player Rony Barrak.

Ara Gevorgyan went to Sydney with his 15-member band and Eduard Topchyan, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra.

The concert was accompanied by the local symphony orchestra. The dance performances were supplemented by dancers of the Gevorkian Dance Academy [which was founded by Vartan and Siranush Gevorkians].

Talking to old.aspu.am, Ara Gevorgyan said that the concert was held to a packed hall. “A large number of people wished to attend the concert. That is why, I was offered to perform another concert in a year,” he added.
