Ara Hakobyan opens personal exhibition

“When they ask me which style I create in, I tell them I try to go with only one style or one form, and that is to be sincere towards my art,” says Dean of the Faculty of Art Education at the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), Professor Ara Hakobyan.

The exhibition hall of Tekeyan Center today hosted the opening of painter Ara Hakobyan’s personal exhibition, which featured the best works (nearly 30 paintings) of the painter from various years.

Among those attending the exhibition were members of the Artists’ Union of Armenia, the administration, professors and students of the ASPU and art lovers.

President of the Tekeyan Cultural Association of Armenia Ruben Mirzakhanyan said the opening of the exhibition is a major event and noted that Ara Hakobyan experiences infinite joy when creating art, adding that this is seen also in his paintings and that not everyone feels the pleasure of creating.

According to him, Armenians are very gifted in painting, but besides being talented, artists often lack intellect and education. However, this prevails for Ara Hakobyan. Ruben Mirzakhanyan says it is not by chance that Ara Hakobyan is one of the four people in Armenia who hold a PhD in Art Science.

ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan notes that this exhibition serves as another opportunity to take a glance at the world of beauty and to have the generalization of hope, light, color, beauty and harmony as a result of interaction and in the domain of our psyche — something that is missing in our days and something that Ara Hakobyan, through the philosophical manifestations of his work, provides us with the opportunity to enjoy.

Srbuhi Gevorgyan is certain that there will be an interesting dialogue — when interacting with the works of Ara Hakobyan, there is some gleam of meaning, substance and world recognition, a unique way of giving meaning to the mutual recognition of art and objective reality.

Director of Museums and Archives at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Friar Asoghik Karapetyan was also attending the opening of the exhibition. “Our days seem to resemble a perturbed sea, and in that sea, art is one of the important boats to which all those in the sea rush to. What is symbolic is the fact that such exhibitions are opening during these days; in this chaotic situation, art is the safe, peaceful, secure and wise haven that conveys to us the expressions of divine grace. As a clergyman, I am glad that the artists of our days portray also faith and spiritual life in their paintings. All this conveys to me the same experiences that I have during church rituals,” he remarked and, on the occasion of the exhibition, transmitted to the attendees the words of appreciation and the blessing of the Supreme Patriarch.

Father Asoghik added that the paintings, which are showcased under the roof of a cultural center and portray spiritual life, are extremely important when shaping a human being. According to him, from the paintings by Ara Hakobyan radiates the sincerity that we see in a temple — this is transmitted to Armenians through the paintings in the temple of art.

Father Asoghik wished that the artist continue to show the grace and the luminescent course that God has allotted, adding that, after all, man is shaped, becomes wise through art, and it is through art that he becomes familiar with the divine culture.

President of the Artists’ Union of Armenia Suren Safaryan said he is familiar with most of the paintings showcased at the exhibition and added that the essence of Ara Hakobyan is embedded in the paintings. “Ara Hakobyan is a simple artist with a pure heart, is fair in interactions and honest in human relations. All this is reflected in his paintings, in which there are simple episodes of humans and which only an artist can see and portray. We all have the need for such paintings,” Safaryan remarked and wished the artist more exhibitions.

The exhibition will run until May 19th (16:00).
