An exhibition of photos by Samvel Sevada, Honoured Art Figure of the Republic of Armenia, Professor of the Chair of Camerawork, Artistic Photography and Socio-cultural Activities, has opened at ASPU.
The exhibition entitled "Armenia: Promised Land" features Armenia and its landmarks, including Aragats, Haghpat, Aparan lake, Chambarak, Luys Karabakh, Ararat. In the exhibited photos, one can see our Homeland with its its special depth and colour, cozy corners and sites, from golden fields, blooming stones to the serenade of the sunny valley.
Gevorg Tadevosyan, Dean of the Faculty of Culture, says many know the biography of the distinguished artist [Samvel Sevada]. The artist, who is constantly making Armenian culture popular overseas, has long established his unique place in Armenian art photography. He is also one of the best professors of the Chair, who continues to pass on the traditions and his experience to the younger generation.
ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan emphasized the importance of opening the exhibition at the University and said that the photos reflect [in their own way] the standards of education, modern life, art and artistic photography. Today, they are an important model for students in the field of education and in the process of training specialists.
Srbuhi Gevorgyan reminded that Samvel Sevada has had many exhibitions, raising various issues, from social to historical.
Professor Gevorgyan has managed to look through the photos. She realized that the ability to depict dynamic life in static situations and to convey the breath of reality in individual works is a great luxury for art lovers, as well as for students, who observe the progress of education from a specialist's point of view, are able to give an objective assessment of reality, and have emotional and emphatic manifestations.
Srbuhi Gevorgyan was particularly impressed by the photo "I will return". The Doctor of Psychology says the author's psychological needs made him demonstrate a creative, emotional and professional approach to the historical event.
"The canvas evokes specific feelings in everyone; the boy's grief, sadness, a rebellious desire to be isolated, to reflect, to follow the historical mission, to return. The power present in the boy's collective image shows the Armenian nation and Armenia to the world. And that very power must preserve our identity, historical dignity, place and role in this world," the rector said.
“An amazing, unique poet, a unique photographer, painter, intellectual and citizen, who reveals the amazing depths of his and many people's spiritual world through his activity,” Professor Hamlet Mikayelyan said when describing Samvel Sevada.
The professor says the only painting in the exhibition is the peak of moral maturity. "He [Samvel Sevada] creates an amazing atmosphere in our reality. Sevada's paintings are of great value, and his main concern is the moral basis in society."
Samvel Sevada loves the nature of Armenia. He says the works exhibited in the exhibition are contemporary; they bring about additional emotions and mental feelings, make you contemplate. He confesses that he is often moved by the immortal scenes of Armenia.
The photographer regrets to say that the new generation has become indifferent. To further popularize Armenian photographic art he is going to take some of his and his students' works to the exhibition to be organized in the United States at the end of January.
"No matter how many people will see the exhibition. Even if my works make an impression on 20-25 people, it's already good," Samvel Sevada said in conclusion.
