“I congratulate all graduates on this important event in their life, on the occasion of graduating from one of the most prestigious universities in the Republic of Armenia. This ceremony is festal and exciting at the same time - festal because you are armed with deep knowledge and necessary experience; exciting because you are saying goodbye to your Alma Mater and favourite lecturers,” President of the Artsakh Republic Bako Sahakyan said during a solemn diploma awards ceremony at Armenian State Pedagogical University.
The President of the second Armenian state believes that besides receiving higher education, the graduates also acquired confidence over these years to receive a quality education which will enable them to find a worthy place in life. “You are undertaking an important mission – to educate generations and take an active part in the development and strengthening of educational, scientific, cultural and other spheres of our country. That is a front where the future of the nation, its defense and survival system are created and strengthened. I am speaking about Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora trinity,” he said.
Bako Sahakyan said that ASPU students have actively participated in the protection of their homeland. He expressed confidence that the graduates would uphold the honour and reputation of the university which has had invaluable contribution to the scientific and educational life of the Armenian people.
The President of the Artsakh Republic also handed out monetary awards to 21 graduates had demonstrated excellent academic performance.
The solemn ceremony was attended by Minister of Education and Science Levon Mkrtchyan, Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, students and teaching staff members of the University.
ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan congratulated the graduates and said it was an important day for the University as 2700 graduates were receiving graduate certificates which would enable them to be engaged in pedagogical and culture activities in different spheres. “The day is even more significant as the best 21 graduates are receiving diplomas by the President of the Artsakh Republic. I assure you on behalf of the teaching staff and teachers that no matter where we are and what we do we all realize that Artsakh is the greatest achievement of our nation and each of us will do everything possible for the second Armenian state [Artsakh].”
His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan conveyed the blessings of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and his pontifical address to the students who had completed Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses at the University.
The clergyman said ‘our souls are filled not only with joy, but also with national pride as we take our revenge with the help of these 2700 graduates who will join the ranks of teachers in schools and educate our generations.’ “I can say with certainty that our enemy will die of envy after seeing all this. Let the God’s smile, faith of our fathers, belief in good future accompany you throughout your life. I wish all of us a peaceful homeland, prosperous people and, of course, a bright future. Long live Armenia, the Armenian people and Armenian teachers.”
On behalf of her friends, Lilit Antinyan, a MA student of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, expressed gratitude to leadership and teaching staff of the University for ‘the bright and unforgettable days of student life.’
She stressed that the University had given them knowledge, contributed to the development of their skills and abilities, taught them to overcome difficulties, look forward and strive to become better. “I assure you that the valuable knowledge and experience we gained here will become a solid foundation for our future work. In addition to stable knowledge, you have also instilled in us a clear attitude towards our profession, you have given us strength and faith, and you have taken care of us. We wish our Alma Mater progress and advancement. Let the good be replaced by the better who have the willingness to use the knowledge their acquired during the study for their homeland and determination to multiply what has been created by their elders.”
The ceremony was followed by a concert. The University’s brass band, the orchestra of national instruments, the quartet of music lecturers of the Faculty of Culture, students of the Dance Department, “Ave Maria” choir of the Faculty of Art Education, the laureate of international and republican competitions, performed during the concert.
All graduates of the University’s ten faculties received diplomas in a solemn ceremony on the same day.
