Measures aimed at preventing and minimizing the spread of COVID-19 continue at the Pedagogical University. This time, an information seminar was held for the teaching staff on the initiative of the Chair of First Aid, Emergency Situations and Civil Protection of the University.
During the meeting, Mary Ter-Stepanyan, Associate Professor at YSMU Chair of Epidemiology, Doctor of Medical Science, referred to the spread of the virus
Mary Ter-Stepanyan, Doctor of Epidemiology, Associate Professor of YSMU Chair of Epidemiology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, spoke about the spread of the virus, infection rates in the country, the sharp rise in COVID-19 deaths, and the need for vaccination.
She stressed that Armenia has hit the peak of COVID's 4th wave infections. The number of coronavirus-related deaths exceeds the coronavirus deaths recorded during the war: this is a serious cause for concern.
The epidemiologist urged the presentees to avoid spreading misinformation and not to be involved in anti-vaccine COVID-19 propaganda and advised everyone to be vigilant and have a more conscious approach to the solution of the problem. “Armenia has the lowest proportion of citizens inoculated against COVID-19 in the region which speaks to the low level of education of people. Vaccination could have saved many lives but it did not and doctors are also to blame for it,” she said.
Mary Ter-Stepanyan expressed hope that the confirmed cases and deaths will make the society be more circumspect, think about the effectiveness of vaccines and avoid further complications due to COVID-19.
In her speech, Narine Sahakyan, Head of the Chair of First Aid, Emergency Situations and Civil Protection at ASPU, Doctor of Biological Science, stressed that the University implements the latest order of the Ministry of Health in due order which is evidenced by the number of vaccinated people and tests.
