On February 29, Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) hosted Prof. Sokrat Khanyan, a poet, literary critic and pedagogue, who headed the Chair of Armenian literature of Artsakh State University for many years.
“In Armenia, we have superstars and stars; together they illuminate the path of native Armenian culture. It is difficult to be called a poet among creative people who have Narekatsi, Kuchak and Sayat Nova, Tumanyan, Isahakyan, Teryan, Shiraz, Sevak and Sahyan,” Sokrat Khanyan said humbly.
The Doctor of Philology recently celebrated his 94th anniversary. On the occasion, the Faculty of Philology of ASPU organized a grand matinée to esteem and honour the famous Artsakhian.
During the event, Associate Professor Naira Khachatryan and students presented Sokrat Khanyan’s life and biography, the memorable moments of his scientific and educational activity, his poems and beautiful musical performances.
Together with Associate Professor Nona Davtyan, Head of the Chair of Literature and Journalism of Artsakh State University, Naira Khachatryan, gave a literary analysis of the poet’s works.
Professors Aelita Dolukhanyan, Suren Danielyan, Edward Mkrtchyan, and PhD student Hovhannes Sargsyan shared interesting memories about Sokrat Khanyan.
Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Professor Ashot Galstyan hailed the initiative, emphasizing the importance of organizing such meetings for future philologists.
The event concluded with the premiere of a new song based on Sokrat Khanyan's poem "Our Land."
