ASPU joins Museums at Night 2016

Armenian State Pedagogical University joined this year’s Museums at Night, an annual event during which most museums open their doors to visitors in the evening and remain open late into the night. This year, the event was held under the slogan “Museums and Cultural Landscapes.”

The museum organized several events entitled “The Future of the Past,” “Reflection of Armenian Nature in National Costumes – Taraz,” “Time Machine” which characterized the cultural landscapes of Armenia through the presentation of national garments and games.

With the help of Lilit Melikyan, Director of Teryan Cultural Centre, ASPU students exhibited modern clothing inspired by traditional national costumes, carpets and sculptures in the section “The Future of the Past.”

During the event entitled “Reflection of Armenian Nature in National Costumes – Taraz,” 7th-form pupils of Anania Shirakatsy Educational Complex exhibited their works created after the study of Armenian traditional costumes and as a result of their imagination.

The exhibition attracted visitors' attention, admiration and amazement: the pupils had studied and understood the characteristics inherent in the national costume and created their works so skillfully that it was difficult to distinguish between the real costumes and imaginative ones.

The interactive game “Time Machine” organized by the University graduates was intended for for children and adults. While playing the game, participants had to pass from one cultural landscape to the other, acquiring new knowledge and skills in the meantime – embroidery, needlework, felt craft, information about famous monuments and intangible cultural heritage of Armenia.

Representatives of the ASPU Museum claim that the Museums at Night event has again received great attention, arousing interest among visitors. They highlighted the visit of children with hearing problems, who participated in the games with great enthusiasm and left the university with the desire to return there as students.

While presenting the cultural landscapes, the ASPU Museum collaborated with schools, University graduates, students and lecturers, including Lilit Melikyan and Naira Mkhitaryan, both lecturers of the Faculty of Art Education, and ASPU graduates Lusine Mkhitaryan, Diana Karapetyan, Araks and Sose Ananyan.
