ASPU Lectures Visit Keele University

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ project, the Faculty of History and Social Sciences of Armenian State Pedagogical University after Abovyan has established effective cooperation with the University of Keele, one of the best educational institutions in the UK. Within the framework of cooperation started in 2019, in the 2021/2022 academic year, six students of the Faculty studied at the British university for one semester through an Erasmus student exchange programme.

On March 14-25, a group of lecturers of the Faculty of History and Social Sciences again visited Keele University through an exchange programme.

Associate Professor Edgar Hovhannisyan, Dean of the Faculty of History and Law, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor Samvel Poghosyan, Doctor of Science in History, Vice-Dean for Science and International Cooperation, Prof. Khachatur Stepanyan, Doctor of Science in History, Head of the Chair of World History and its Teaching Methods, were at the university for a two-week working visit. They delivered lectures and had various meetings and seminars.

Edgar Hovhannisyan delivered a lecture on the topics " Diaspora Policy of Soviet Armenia", "National and Ethnic Conflicts in Transcaucasia after the Collapse of the USSR", "Current Phase of Artsakh Conflict", Samvel Poghosyan delivered a speech on "Ethnic Cleansing and Genocide Policy in Transcaucasia before 1920," "Armenian Genocide and Concentration Camps of Armenians", "Origins of the Karabakh Conflict" while Khachatur Stepanyan on “Formation of Soviet Republics and its Impact on Ethnic Conflicts", "Nagorno Karabakh in the Soviet Period", and "Sovietization of Transcaucasia".

During the lectures, the attendees discussed the Artsakh conflict, its possible resolution and further actions, as well as issues related to the Armenian Genocide and the national policy of the Soviet state. British students and lecturers were also interested in the geopolitical environment in the South Caucasus. The purpose of similar lectures is to familiarize foreign students and lecturers with Armenia and issues related to Armenians.

During the visit, the sides also reached agreements to continue cooperation in science and education.
