ASPU Professor Nelly Abovyan dies at 61

It is with deep sadness that we inform you that Nelly Abovyan, a lecturer at the Chair of Dance Education and its Teaching Methods, has passed away untimely at the age of 61.

Nelly Abovyan was born in 1962. In 1984, she graduated from the Dance Department of the Faculty of Culture of Armenian State Pedagogical Institute.

Great was her contribution to the aesthetic upbringing and education, as well as dance teaching of Armenian children.

She worked as a choreographer in a number of institutions, including the Technical College of Electronic Calculators (Yerevan), Palace of Culture (Kazan), Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, Pioneers Palace, School for the Blind and Weak-Sighted and Yerevan State College of Variety and Jazz Art.

From 1984 until her death, she worked at her Alma Mater, passing on her professional skills and experience in dance pedagogy and dance studies to the younger generation. Nelly Abovyan was loved and respected by her colleagues and students.

 In 2008, she was awarded the "Pedagogical University" medal of ASPU for her long-term activity.

The ASPU leadership and lecturers express their deepest condolences to Nelly Abovyan’s family on her untimely death.

The memory of the meritorious educator will remain vivid in the hearts of her colleagues and students.

The farewell service for Nelly Abovyan will be held at “Edem” funeral hall at 5.30 p.m., June 25.
