ASPU Professor participates in international conference on Armenian Studies

An international scientific-practical conference "Armenian Studies in the Context of Languages and Cultures" ("АРМЕНОВЕДЕНИЕ В КОНТЕКСТЕ ЯЗЫКОВ И КУЛЬТУР") organized by Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU) was held on April 18-19.

The conference brought together Armenologists from Armenia, Russia, Argentina, China and other countries.

ASPU Professor Lalik Khachatryan presented a report on the theme "Types of Transformation Models in Armenian Diachronic  Word Formation" («Виды трансформационных моделей в армянском диахроническом словообразовании»).

In his report, the professor dwelt on the historical development of the vocabulary of the Armenian language, specifically how certain analytical structures from ancient Armenian have been preserved as comparative structures in modern Armenian as a result of transformation of linguistic units. "The discovery of transformation patterns and their interpretation give a certain idea about diachronic word formation of Armenian and complete the characteristics of Armenian typology," said Lalik Khachatryan.

In their reports, the conference participants addressed various issues of Armenian studies: ranging from comparative study of Armenian and other languages, loanwords from Russian, intercultural communication, theory of translation, methodological issues of teaching Armenian in foreign language classrooms, history of Armenian, etc.

"The conference emphasized the importance of the Armenian language in the context of studying foreign languages. It will serve as an incentive to organize similar meetings in the future" Lalik Khachatryan said in conclusion.
