KHACHATUR ABOVYAN ARMENIAN STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY

Professor of the Chair of Development and Education Psychology at the Armenian State Pedagogical University, Doctor of Psychological Sciences Vladimir Karapetyan participated online in a scientific-practical conference under the title “Herzen Readings: Psychological Studies in Education”.

Organized by A. I. Herzen Pedagogical University, the two-day conference gathered nearly 500 psychologists and pedagogues at the conference held online and in the face-to-face format.

ASPU Professor Vladimir Karapetyan participated in the conference as a member of the organizing committee and a keynote speaker.

In his remarks, on behalf of Rector of the ASPU Srbuhi Gevorgyan, Karapetyan congratulated his Russian colleagues on the organizing of the conference and identifying the key issues and expressed gratitude for the fruitful cooperation with the ASPU. In his speech, the Professor touched upon a person’s goal setting and the expression of cognitive dissonance in the conditions of an educational crisis.

Although this crisis originated back in the 1700s, it is clearer to see in the modern world. Karapetyan talked about the problems during the crisis and the reasons behind them, particularly students’ notions of the path to building their careers, the opportunities provided by a university and what guarantees a good student can have — also from the perspective of finding a good job.

The professor also presented to the academic community the conflicting changes in the diverse and rapidly evolving education market, as well as the results of own research on the topic in the graduating classes.
