ASPU representatives attend matinée

A matinée was organized at the museum named after Western Armenian poet Ruben Sevak on the occasion of the writer’s 140th anniversary.

The event was also attended by lecturers of the Chair of New and Modern Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods at Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) and 3rd-year students of the Faculty of Philology. They were invited by Rev. Fr. Asoghik Karapetyan, Director of the Museums and Archives of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

"Ruben Sevak is the honour of our poetry, a cherished name among the great people of Armenian literature of the early 20th century, whose cosmopolitan spirit is with us," ASPU Professor Suren Danielyan said in his opening remarks.

He spoke about the writer's works and his response to the Cilician massacres, Sevak’s “Red Book," and showed the lessons with which the writer continues to remain with us today, reminding us of his message: get angry humanly.

Writer and publicist Gayane Atanesyan also made a speech during the event. Actors from the Gabriel Sundukyan National Academic Theater read out poems by Sevak, and vocal performances were performed by Armenian and foreign composers.

The ceremony was concluded by His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, the Director of the External Relations and Protocol Division of the Mother See, who said words of blessing.

After the event, the ASPU representatives visited the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Church of St. Hripsime.
