On May 16, a group of lecturers and students of the Faculty of Philology visited Silva Kaputikyan House-Museum in Yerevan to participate in the presentation of the book "Hayk Nahapet" (Hayk the Patriarch/Chieftain) by Armenuhi Demirchyan, Director of the Museum.
The book provides historical description of Hayk's lineage (descendants of Hayk) and formation of the cradle of the Armenian people.
Ashot Galstyan, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, said "Hayk Nahapet" was imbued with a great sense of patriotism, and it was no accident that future philologists attended the presentation of the book; in a couple of years, they will be teaching lessons in patriotism and human education in schools.
Professor Galstyan thinks the topics covered in the book should also be included in school textbooks; reading a work that also has artistic value, pupils will come to know the truth.
Ashot Galstyan also spoke about the rich literary legacy of poetess Silva Kaputikyan, stressing that the young generation should follow the writer's advice and messages, know her language tricks and new word formations, which are as important as her writings.
Professor Aelita Dolukhanyan, Head of Chair of Ancient and Medieval Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods, said in turn that the presentation of the book at the house-museum was not accidental. Silva Kaputikyan was a great patriot, a sophisticated, wise and talented individual, who knew the history of the Armenian people very well.
Professor Dolukhanyan highly appreciated the historical, artistic and educational value of the book, hailed the truthfulness and relevance of the material and emphasized the need to publish the book in other languages as well.
"The publication of “Hayk Nahapet” is important nowadays. Throughout history, many attempts have been made to destroy the Armenian identity and people. Similar attempts were made during the time of the Armenian patriarch, who won a victory in a decisive period of the nation’s history. Although the book is based on Movses Khorenatsi’s evidence, the writer's imagination gives an opportunity to restore the historical reality and make readers participants in those events."
Anna Kostanyan, who is taking a Master’s course at the Faculty of Philology, says Armenuhi Demirchyan, the author of the book "Hayk Nahapet", found and accepted the heroes like her relatives, became their wingman, wrought and hardened them like iron.
BA student Mary Arakelyan appreciates the fact that through Hayk Nahapet the author presented the manners and customs of the Armenian patriarchal family, marital fidelity and the sense of responsibility towards the relatives, as well as the elders’ care for younger ones.
Armenuhi Demirchyan confesses that she would not have written the book if we had won the 44-day war in Artsakh; the moment of writing matured, and it was necessary to put on the readers’ table such a work and hero that would encourage and uplift the patriotic spirit of the Armenian people. Although "Hayk Nahapet" is a novel, it is multi-layered and has a lot to say. The book contains a number of episodes that show the way to unite. We should love each other by starting dialogue without becoming rival forces."
After the presentation the guests walked around the house-museum, with future philologists getting acquainted with the interesting image and literary heritage of the famous Armenian writer.
