From March 2 to 3, British Council Armenia hosted a two-day conference for English language teachers under the title “Teaching for Success” in Yerevan.
Among the representatives of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) were Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Tigran Mikayelyan, Head of the Chair of Romance Languages Gohar Melikyan, lecturers and students of the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs in English Language and Literature.
During the conference, the representatives participated in the activities for exchange of pedagogical-methodical experience, direct application and piloting of the Online Teacher Community (OTC) programs developed by the British Council and dissemination of the materials of those programs.
By the way, the Armenian State Pedagogical University and the British Council have been collaborating for nearly a decade in the areas of English language teaching programs and dissemination of English language and culture, as well as in various directions for promotion of inclusivity.
Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Tigran Mikayelyan believes the conference served as another good opportunity for organizing discussions with sector-specific experts, officers and practicing teachers, as well as for adjusting the professional agenda and identifying the current needs.
Among those attending the opening of the conference were Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Chairperson of the ASPU Board Zhanna Andreasyan; Deputy Minister Araksya Svajyan; Deputy Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Armenia Paul Morris and Director of English Programmes at the British Council Michael Connolly.
The Minister and Deputy Minister underscored the major contribution of the British Council for adjustment of teachers’ categories and development of a new concept paper for their professional development and training.
Country Director at British Council Armenia Addeh Hovassapian presented the activities carried out in this direction which were prescribed under the topics of the sub-commissions of the conference along with the main topics of the online community of teachers, as well as the logic behind the selection and speeches of the participants.
