Hamlet Mikayelyan, Professor of the Chair of Mathematics and its Teaching Methods, reported on private teaching methods used at ASPU for STEM education.

The professor started his speech with the question, "What are we preparing - an expert in the field or a teacher?" he says the effectiveness of educational programs and courses included in the curriculum, and organization of the teaching process is largely determined by the answer to the aforesaid question.

Professor Mikayelyan presented the results of the research carried out in STEM teaching at ASPU. The working group will discuss them in the near future, thereby contributing to the development of new curricula.

Hamlet Mikayelyan says a trained good teacher and at the same time a leading specialist in the field should be able to set educational targets and goals, reveal problems, predict educational outcomes, organize chairs according to scientific fields, etc.

The members of the Scientific Council discussed the issue and voiced different opinions. They agree on one thing: a pedagogue and field specialist should not be separated. it is impossible to become a renowned specialist without proper knowledge of the field, on the other hand, knowledge of pedagogical skills is also important.

President of the Scientific Council Srbuhi Gevorgyan emphasized the importance of similar studies in the fields of humanities, arts, and educational psychology.

She says as a result of successful cooperation between field specialists and methodology specialists, educational plans will be developed in compliance with students’ interests.
