ASPU Scientific Library is again first

The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia in cooperation with the National Library of Armenia has published the statistical directory “Armenian Libraries in 2015: Statistical Analysis” which provides statistical information on the activities of public and university libraries in 2015.

For the sixth time in a row, the Scientific Library of Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan was ranked the first among the 17 university libraries according to key performance indicators used in the evaluation of library services.

In 2015, the library had 21 313 readers, 1 328 338 visitors and a circulation of 3 825 198 printed items /books, magazines, journals and newspapers/. On average, each reader made use of the library services 62 times and used 179 printed items in one year.

The book stock of the library has been enriched with 10883 new books, manuals, contemporary Armenian and foreign literature.

The ASPU Library also came first in the public library system of the republic, according to performance indicators in measuring library services. It only yields to the National Library in the number of readers but exceeds the latter 5 times in the number of visits.

“The success of the ASPU Scientific Library is due to the effective work of the relevant structure with its various events devoted to propaganda of printed material, including “Best Reader of the Year” annual prize-giving ceremony and publication of the booklet with the same name, weekly meetings of “Chorekshabti” (Wednesday) literary club and publication of “Chorekshabti” (Wednesday) literary collection, extended working schedules, provision of library services on Saturdays and Sundays,” Head of the ASPU Library Tigran Petrosyants said in conversation with old.aspu.am.
