ASPU student crowned European Champion

Alvard Manukyan, a third-year student of the Faculty of Special Education, recently participated in the European Powerlifting Championships hosted by the Ukrainian city of Lutsk.

The Armenian athlete left for Ukraine with the Armenian men's and women's teams. At the Women’s Championship, Alvard Manukyan won the gold in deadlift, thus becoming a champion in the age group of 20-23.

She received a gold medal and a diploma in the championship which was attended by numerous athletes from 15 countries.

Before leaving for Ukraine, Alvard Manukyan participated in the Armenian Powerlifting Championships where she again came first and received an invitation to participate in the European Championships.

Alvard Manukyan, who was born into a family of athletes, took up powerlifting five years ago.

“Sport has a great role in my life. It was a great honour for me to represent Armenia and take the first prize, especially given the fact that I competed with Azerbaijani representatives,” the athlete mentioned in conversation with old.aspu.am.

The future psychologist says she will combine sports with study because she is convinced that when an athlete is not prepared for the competition mentally, it will be difficult for him/her to reach the desired result.

Speaking about her sporting success and achievements, the athlete stressed the role of her coach - Gagik Saroyan, President of the Powerlifting Federation of Armenian, a five-time world champion and a double European champion and MSIC (Master of Sports, International Class). “An athlete’s victory is also the coach’s victory,” she added.
