Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) and Teach for Armenia educational foundation have successfully completed the 2-credit training course aimed at enhancing students’ skills in teaching and leadership. Overall, 56 four-year students of the Faculty of Primary Education specializing in elementary education participated in the course held on February 21-27.

Today, Marianna Harutyunyan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Human Resources and International Cooperation, handed over certificates to the participants.

The vice-rector hailed the cooperation and active partnership between ASPU and Teach for Armenia; the University offers classical pedagogical education, and Teach for Armenia, in turn, supplements it with the latest approaches and new technologies, she stressed.

Marianna Harutyunyan thanked the presentees for organizing the course and participating in it and expressed hope that in the future the students would be leaders in their professional domain and will take responsibility for preparing and training generations.

"I do hope that after graduating from the university, each of you will teach school and pass on a worthy education to the future [generations] of our nation," the vice-rector said adding that ‘this is only the beginning of joint efforts; it is necessary to strengthen the army of educators by strengthening the future schools.

Tatev Karapetyan, Head of the Recruitment Department at Teach for Armenia, presented the history of the foundation and said Teach for Armenia believes that education is the main resource of the development of the country, and they dared to take it upon themselves to bring changes.

Tatev Karapetyan wondered how many of the participants were going to work at school and she was much delighted to hear the answer. The representatives of Teach for Armenia believe that the positive reaction was the result of the assiduous work of ASPU - their key and ideological partner.

Heghine Khachatryan, Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education, highlighted the importance of the course in terms of imparting soft and leadership skills which she said are necessary for future teachers.

The dean added that the visits to communities that followed the theoretical part of the course, application of theoretical knowledge in practice, and communication with teachers made students more determined in their professional choice.

Summarizing the results of the course, Arevik Prazyan, a career development coordinator and recruitment specialist at Teach for Armenia, said the course was special not only from the point of view of ensuring students' participation and activity, but also from the point of view of sharing knowledge and providing feedback.

She hopes many of the participants will continue their professional activities in the field of pedagogy and will use the knowledge gained at ASPU and during the course in their future activity.
