Associate Professor Karen Abrahamyan passes away at 71

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the death of Karen Abrahamyan, Associate Professor at the Chair of Directing at Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU).

Karen Abrahamyan was 71 years old. In 1974, he graduated from the Directing Department of Yerevan State Institute of Arts and Theater. From 1975 to 1990, he worked at the Mravyan Theater in Gyumri, where he directed more than 30 plays.

In 1990-1993, he worked at the National Academic Theater named after G. Sundukyan, first as a stage director, then as a deputy creative director. In 1993-1995 he was Art Director of Stepanakert State Drama Theatre named after V. Papazyan, and in 1995-1996, Director of the National Academic Theater named after G. Sundukyan.

From 1996 to 2015, Karen Abrahamyan worked at the Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinematography, and since 2012,  he was teaching acting mastery and skills at ASPU. Karen Abrahamyan was a member of the Theater Workers’ Union of Armenia.

The ASPU leadership and lecturers express their deepest condolences to Karen Abrahamyan’s family and relatives. The memory of the meritorious educator, a devotee of theater art, an intellectual and a distinguished pedagogue will always be in the hearts of his colleagues and students.
