Associate Professor Nerses Samvelyan passes away at 55

It is with profound sadness and great sorrow that we inform you of the untimely passing of our colleague, Associate Professor Nerses Samvelyan, Deputy Dean for Science and International Cooperation at the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU).

Nerses Samvelyan was 55 years old. He had been working at ASPU since 2007. For many years, he had educated and armed generations of future educators with professional knowledge, passing on to them his experience and knowledge of contemporary issues in Biogeography, General Geology, Physical Geography, Geomorphology, Paleogeography, as well as his experience and knowledge of contemporary issues in Landscape Science.

The realm of his scientific interests included landscape planning of natural-anthropogenic systems, study of scientific and practical issues of mountain geosystems in Armenia, and the theory and methodology of recreational landscaping.

Nerses Samvelyan wrote 60 scientific and methodological articles, four textbooks, and one monograph.

He enjoyed the love and respect of his colleagues and students. His colleagues describe him as a wonderful person and a sensitive educator, whose competent and insightful ideas helped students obtain professional knowledge and develop key human qualities.

ASPU expresses its deepest condolences to the pedagogue's relatives, friends, colleagues and students.

The farewell service for Nerses Samvelyan will be held at the “Angel” funeral hall (address: 29/10 building, Tbilisyan Highway, Yerevan) on April 4. The funeral service will be held at 1p.m. April 5.
