At the Academic Board Session

The last session of the Academic Board for 2017/2018 academic year was held at the Pedagogical University.

To begin with, Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan congratulated all those who had anniversaries this month after which he granted a scientific title of Professor to Lucinei Ghulghazaryan, Ara Hakobyan, Kamo Vardanyan, and the title of Associate Professor to Lilit Sarakavagyan, Seyran Shahsuvaryan, Eduard Melqonyan, Gayanei Tsaturyan, Alvard Grigoryan and Susanna Muradyan.

Presenting the results of the final attestation examinations and the educational programmes for the upcoming academic year

The Vice –Rector for Academic Matters Mher Melick-Bakhshyan presented the results of the final attestation examinations, highlighting the positive and negative aspects thereof. Once again the Vice-Rector stated that the electronic examination system was fully effective and that the majority of the final papers stood out for their actuality.

“Linguistic and stylistic deficiencies can be noted in a few works, some titles lack precise definitions, and in some cases the reports submitted by the Heads of committees are simply formal”, mentioned Mr. Mher Melick-Bakhshyan and spoke about the low culture of students written and oral speech, thus, advising the Heads of Chairs to nominate only works of a relevant level.

In regards with the topic in question, during their meeting sessions the Deans of Faculties and Heads of Chairs were assigned to discuss the suggestions and remarks done by the Heads of Committees, when approving the topics of the final papers and postgraduate theses, to consider their actuality and repetition of topics year on year. Likewise, it was requested to activate students’ involvement in pre-exam consultations as well as develop and introduce special training session about the scientific apparatus.

In his report about the educational programmes Mr. Mher Melick –Bakhshyan mentioned that the full-time and distant learning undergraduate and postgraduate curricula had been fully reviewed and amended, the pedagogical and academic internship terms, semester weeks had been clarified; as a result of this the lecturer’s work load was reduced by two weeks a year.

What is more, Rouben Mirzakhanyan also stated that the conducted changes fully were related to the daily work of the University and to increasing the quality of the learning process. He also added that despite the obvious decrease of the number of applicants per year they tried to keep the teaching stuff without any cuts. Speaking about reviewing the educational volumes, the Rector assured that they had been able to bring the borders closer to the average standards of the country’s higher educational system.

The members of the Academic Board approved the decisions on both abovementioned issues.

The Head of the Department of Educational Processes Management and Reforms Mr. Mkrtich Avagyan presented the results as well as the suggestions made by the Committee created for the enhancement of the platform and outlined that this improvement derived from complaints of students and lecturers in regards with the system.

Once again, it was emphasized at the Academic Board session that the Google Classroom is the key platform for student-lecturer communication the primary function of which was fostering and developing students’ creativity, analytic thinking and independence.
The Academic Board made a decision about the assessed electronic assignments and changes of monitoring indexes of lecturers’ academic performance.

Last but not least, the Rector assured that the electronic system should continue being developed and that they should keep being consistent in order to have new tangible achievements.

Other Matters
The Academic Board accepted the reports submitted by the standing committees under the Board, the 020 and 064 professional boards.
The Vice-Rector Srbouhi Gevorgyan submitted the dissertation topics and books proposed for publication to the Academic Board’s approval.

In addition, as a result of secret ballot the members of the Academic Board awarded the title of Professor to Mr. Samvel Poghosyan, and the title of Associate Professor to Hayk Grigoryan, Mariam Yeghyan and Levon Nazaryan. Besides, they elected the Candidate of Pedagogy, Associate Professor Tereza Azatyan as the Head of the Chair of Special Pedagogy and Psychology, and the Doctor of Philology, Professor Lalik Khachatryan as the Head of the Chair of Armenian Language and its Teaching Methods.

Likewise, the Academic Board made a decision to name the Chair of Modern and New Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods after the bright memory of famous Armenian Literary Critic, Professor Vachei Partizouni.
