Auditorium named after Professor Sergo Yeritsyan opens at ASPU 

“TV Journalism is like eternal love one cannot be separated from…" The well-known words of the distinguished journalist Sergo Yeritsyan decorate the walls of an auditorium (at Armenian State Pedagogical University) bearing the name of the professor.  The ceremonial opening of the auditorium took place at Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) on October 16.

On the initiative of the Yeritsyan family, the honour of opening the renovated and furnished auditorium was given to the professor’ son, Sargis Yeritsyan. Auditorium 208 of the Faculty of Culture was named after Sergo Yeritsyan, Professor of the Chair of TV and Radio Journalism, Doctor of Philology by the decision of the University’s Scientific Council.

Levon Galstyan, Head of the Chair of TV and Radio Journalism, hailed Sergo Yeritsyan’s great efforts and contributions to journalism education, and considered it symbolic that the opening of the auditorium named after the famous journalist took place on October 16 which marks Armenian Press Day. “Sergo Yeritsyan was a famous TV journalist not only for his popular Kartsiq” (“Opinion”) TV program, but also for his travel reviews and many other interesting initiatives. His next, very important merit was that he put journalism education on an academic basis; everyone knows that it is impossible to organize journalism education in higher education institutions without his (Yeritsyan’s) well-known manuals, monographs and numerous articles,” Levon Galstyan said.  “That academicism, experience in journalism and also his human character outline the phenomenon of Sergo Yeritsyan,” he added.

The head of the Chair of TV and Radio Journalism believes that the beautiful environment, completely renovated, furnished and equipped with professional literature, will play a major role for professors and students. it is part of education and upbringing.

ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan thanked the Yeritsyan family for the initiative and said she attaches importance to professional handwriting. She believes that the auditorium named after Professor Yeritsyan will provide an opportunity to learn the most important things in journalism, to understand the content peculiarities in journalism, which determine his personality.

The ASPU rector added that each field is important not by what we have, but by what that given field will be like tomorrow. She thanked the Yeritsyan family for donating professional literature to the University; they will help future journalists learn and develop.

Sergo Yeritsyan's colleagues, friends, and students were also present at the official ceremony. Writer and journalist Vrezh Sarukhanyan said that ‘biological death cannot interrupt the noblest legacy:’ the real age and biography of a person are as long as he lives, feels and sees life.

Vrezh Sarukhanyan thinks that Sergo Yeritsyan managed to see that life. he (Yeritsyan) understood the speed of his dreampath and thanks to that he was able to achieve a lot. “He (Yeritsyan) was connected with his Motherland with every nerve cell, and the important thing he left behind is the love of people. He was a good advisor for everyone. His life was full of love and kindness. We will have to wait for a long time to see the fulfillment of Sergo Yeritsyan's dreams," Mr. Sarukhanyan said.

Sergo Yeritsyan’s son Sargis said thanks to the auditorium, not only the good name of the beloved pedagogue will remain with students, but it will also enable generations to learn and create their own paths by the example, path, biography, education and activity of one person. “"He (Sergo Yeritsyan) was a pedagogue who educated not by words, but by his own example and by the way he lived. I am sure that future generations will have the opportunity to know him (Sergo Yeritsyan) through his books, programs and creative legacy, and the memories shared by his colleagues and professors will help them master the profession," Sargis Yeritsyan said.

Famous journalist Lusya Mehrabyan voiced hope that the new generation of journalists will grow up following in Sergo Yeritsyan’s footsteps.

The attendees then watched an excerpt from the documentary "Continuing Journey" dedicated to Professor Sergo Yeritsyan. The film was shot by the joint efforts of the teaching staff of the Chair of TV and Radio Journalism. It presents one man’s destiny, his journey through life, with messages conveyed from the past to the future.
