Awards and Acknowledgement Notes to the Participants of the Pedagogical University Olympiad

The results of the Pedagogical University Olympiad, organized by the initiative of the ASPU Chair of Professional Education and Applied Pedagogy on the centennial of the First Armenian Republic, were summarised at the Sardarapat Battle Memorial Complex.

The three-phase Olympiad disclosed the professional skills and qualities of students of different Faculties of the University.

The undergraduate students completed pedagogical tests, made various pedagogical case studies, outlined the existing issues of pedagogy, justifying their actuality and making suggestions.

The MA students received more complex assignments; in addition to pedagogical quizzes, they presented current childhood issues in the RA, suggested options for solutions thereof, and drafted the pedagogical preconditions for their implementation.

The participants of the third stage also prepared messages on the topic “A Child is a Human and a Friend”.

The Olympiad, organized by the initiative of the Head of the Chair, Doctor of Pedagogy, Professor Aida Topuzyan, was held at its best way under the direct supervision of the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Gayanei Aghuzumtsyan and Candidate of Pedagogy, Assistant Naira Martirosyan as well as by the active participation of other lecturers of the Chair too.

“The centennial of the First Republic is the first and milestone year for the Armenian nation and an honourable anniversary for us”, Professor Aida Topuzyan mentioned to the winners during the awards ceremony.

Besides, she considered it symbolic that the conclusion of the results of the Olympiad that was organised on the centennial jubilee of the First Republic of Armenia was held at the heroic battle memorial complex.

Likewise, the Professor highlighted the reforms conducted at the Pedagogical University in the recent years observing that the students also had their stake in it.
“It was our first experience of organising an olympiad in such a format, but the concept has a continuous nature and aims at expanding its geography. Pedagogy is important and you should study well as you are going to be the first teachers of your own children.

The prizes and nominations, the national symbols and the acknowledgement notes were awarded to the worthy winners. The third year undergraduate and the second year postgraduate students of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology Margarite Hovhanyan and Lusinei Gevorgyan won the first two prizes; the third year undergraduate student of the same Faculty Gayanei Aveitisyan and the first year postgraduate student of the Faculty of Special Education Heghinei Arsumanyan won the third prize. The fourth year BA student of the Faculty of Primary Education Manei Abelyan, and the second year postgraduate of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Seyedehnasim Fatemi won the third prize.

Another prize was awarded to the first year distant-learning MA student of the Faculty of Philology Hovhannes Sargsyan for sharing the “Most Honest Message”, and the audience’s sympathy was given to the second year MA student of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Alberta Piroyeva.

In addition, acknowledgement notes were granted to the third year BA students of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology Sona Hovhannisyan, Ani Vardanyan, and the second year MA student of the Faculty of Primary Education Ilona Khambekyan for active participation in the Olympiad.

Among those present at the conclusion of results of the Pedagogical University Olympiad in Sardarapat were the Deputy Deans of the Faculty of History and Law and the Faculty of Primary Education, Doctor of History Samvel Poghosyan and Candidate of Pedagogy Armine Dallakyan.

Further on, Historian Samvel Poghosyan thoroughly presented about the establishment of the First Republic, the history of the preceding heroic battles and the great Armenian political figure Aram Manoukyan’s patriotic activities.

“The heroic battles of May 1918 gave a chance to our people to survive and exist; we need to be able to learn lessons both from our victories and losses, and to continue developing and becoming more powerful today”, mentioned the Doctor.

Later on, excursion tours were organised for the students in the National Museum of Armenian Ethnography and History of Liberation Struggle, where the students were introduced with the exhibits of the museum, historical and cultural values relating to the cultural heritage of Armenian ethnos from ancient times to our days; they help to recognise and appreciate our past and traditional values.

The students were listening with great interest to the history of exceptional exhibits of ancient Armenia, working tools, Armenian carpets, various national traditions and object symbolising them.

What is more, a group of pupils of the Yerevan School N124 after Nerses Mets, under the supervision of the Director of the School Naira Martirosyan, Class Teacher Anahit Hovakimyan and Teacher Shushanik Alexanyan, prepared a surprise for the lecturers, students, and the museum team.

Last but not least, patriotic songs, dances and recitations finalised the day, giving more importance to the pupil-student-pedagogue continuous relations.
