Bakur Karapetyan: If they love, they will rise to defend their lands

On April 28, Armenian State Pedagogical University hosted writer and publicist Bakur Karapetyan.

During the meeting, future journalists got acquainted with the activities of the writer, his literary career and writings. They were also briefed on the documentaries dedicated to the Artsakh war.
Introducing his long-time friend and colleague, Varuzhan Olkinyan, a lecturer of the Chair of TV and Radio Journalism, stressed that Bakur

Karapetyan has had a great investment in and contribution to the history of Armenian television: he is one of the few documentary film directors whose works are viewed and appreciated to this date.

This was followed by a screening of a documentary in the hall of the Faculty of Culture. The 26-minute documentary tells the history of one of the greatest educational and cultural centres, Shushi Fortress, and the cultural heritage of its neighborhood, starting from the foundation of the town until our days.

The author compares each khachkar (Armenia cross-tone) with a person’s fate, and the stones of Shushi, according to the director, recall and tell their own story.

The Artsakh-born filmmaker, who is the author of eight documentaries, is deeply connected to his land and water. Bakur Karapetyan is convinced that younger generation should see to be able love and ‘if they love, they will rise to defend their lands.’

Bakur Karapetyan has written about 32 books. Today, he donated several of his books to the library of the Faculty.
