Beauty in Mathematics

By the initiative of the Professor of the Chair of Mathematics and its Teaching Methods Hamlet Mickaelyan a meeting -lecture on the topic “On the Roads of Yearning” took place at the Pedagogical University, with the participation of his graduates from different years.

“Yearning is the most difficult feeling in this life; each of us has felt it. A while ago I was saddened by Isahakyan’s philosophical generalisations; a person is getting older, and the life is passing by, still remaining the biggest miracle of nature. But yearning is also beautiful”, mentioned Hamlet Mickaelyan and promised that they will be talking about beautiful, which is a generic feature attributive to all objects and phenomena.

According to the Professor, whatever brings joy to our mind, forms the beauty in science, and usually scientists stop on mathematical beauty, and understanding it will help us live.

Besides, Hamlet Mickaelyan considers it extremely important to teach younger generations to live by the rules of beauty even in the fields of professional activities.

Furthermore, in his lecture the speaker presented a series of generalisations in order to understand whether mathematics satisfies the beauty features.

Beauty exists not only in mathematics, but in any science; but why is the role of the “first beauty” usually assigned to mathematics? And even Karl Gauss considers mathematics “the queen of sciences”. To this Hamlet Mickaelyan replies by quoting famous scientists that mathematics is much more than just science, it is rather a language, in which the golden book of nature is written and through which we are able to read other sciences.

In addition, during his lecture Hamlet Mickaelyan also spoke about the inner and outer aesthetics of mathematics, the characteristics of mathematical beauty, the unity of diversities, generality, the knowledge of non-obvious truth, etc.

The speaker also insists that mathematics has offered a strong weapon to humanity – the function of proving, which has established huge belief in regards with mathematics, and reflects accuracy by carrying the whole world on its shoulders.
