“Best Reader” Awards Ceremony Held at ASPU

“I disagree with empty statements that people do not read books nowadays. This annual competition is my candle which I light as a sign of protest and in defense of books and knowledge,” Director of the ASPU Scientific Library, Tigran Petrosyants, said during “The Best Reader” annual awards ceremony at the Pedagogical University.

He stressed that over the years ‘he has had the feeling that books will never die whatever technical capabilities are created;’ it is the book that gives a person the best knowledge for life.

The awards ceremony was attended by representatives of the ASPU teaching staff, parents of students and book-loving people.

After the results of the passing year were summed up, awards were given to undergraduate and graduate students of the ten faculties of the University, as well as to Ruzanna Sargsyan, a third-year student of the Faculty of History and Law, who was named “The Best Reader” of the Pedagogical University in 2016.

Also, awards were given to Edgar Aslanyan and Nane Petrosyants, the best readers of ASPU Primary and High Schools.

The best readers were given certificates and presents by faculty deans, professors and teaching staff members.

Congratulating the best readers, they thanked the director of the ASPU Scientific Library for encouraging readers and ‘infecting’ them with love for reading.

The guests particularly stressed Tigran Petrosyants’ valiant efforts to exalt books and reading and expressed hope that the awards ceremony held for the seventh year in a row would continue to reveal the best readers in the years to come.

The authors of the most-read books in 2016 - psychologist Albert Nalchajyan, Professor Samvel Khudoyan and corresponding member of the NAS Aelita Dolukhanyan - were also awarded during the annual ceremony. The latter was delighted to say that the nation that has a good library is permanent and enduring.

“Hay Zinvor” (Armenian Soldier) newspaper and “Azg” daily were awarded as “Friends of the Library.” “Azg” daily has donated 900 books to the ASPU Library this year.

“Armenian History,” a book by historians Edgar Hovhannisyan, Samvel Poghosyan, Khachatur Stepanyan and Armen Asryan, was named the best in the new category – “The Most Read Book of the Year.” The book has been read 15 000 times this year. Also, Zhora Hakobyan, a graduate of the Pedagogical University and a third-year-student of Gevorkian Theological Seminary, was named “The Best Reader” of ASPU Library from another educational institution.

Armen Hakobyan, a lecturer at the Chair of Russian Language, and Gohar Mkoyan, a lecturer at the Chair of Sociology and Social Work, became winners in the category “300 Days in the Library."

The event ended with New Year wishes and congratulations, book donation and with the hope that the coming year will bring with it peace, success and new achievements.
