The traditional book awards ceremony was held at Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) on June 5 at the initiative of the University’s “Spyurk” (“Diaspora”) Scientific-Educational Center. The graduating students of the Faculty of Philology, whose diploma works and master's theses were about the new and modern period of Armenian literature, received awards.
In his speech, Professor Suren Danielyan, Director of the “Spyurk” Scientific-Educational Center and Head of the Chair of New and Modern Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods after Vache Partizuni, said that life, especially the life of a teacher, is a continuous chain of learning and teaching, which cannot continue without books. “As Charents (a famous Armenian poet, writer and public activist) says, “Books are our companions until death.” That’s why today, too, we are going to fill the new beginning of your life with books.”
The professor confessed that it is with great love that he gives the best students his book – a monograph titled " Problems of Oshakan's Creativity: Interpretation and Details" which is dedicated to the great Western Armenian critic and writer Hakob Oshakan.
The future philologists also received more than 12 books by contemporary Armenian writers from the Diaspora and Armenia which have been published in recent years.
Knarik Abrahamyan, a research fellow at the “Spyurk” Scientific-Educational Center and Associate Professor of the Chair of New and Modern Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods, was pleased with the results. She says she felt students' love and devotion to literature, which contributed to their interest in studying the new and modern period of Armenian literature.
Thanking everyone for the awards, the students said not only did they receive professional knowledge at the University, but also discovered previously unknown names and valuable pieces of literature. The University, particularly the Faculty of Philology, has shaped them as individuals, for which they are first of all grateful to their lecturers.
