Certificates to 140 Trained Lecturers

A few days ago, the results of the trainings on “Strengthening Disaster Risks Reduction in the ASPU Curriculum” organized at the University were concluded.

Within this framework, the University’s 140 lecturers and PhD students were trained in several directions such as organizing first medical aid for the population in emergency situations, global ecological issues in the context of sustainable development, psychological basis of reducing disaster risks and means and methods of developing RDR for teachers.

Participants were awarded certificates by the Head of DRR Project Leader of the UN Armenian Office Tigran Tovmasyan and the ASPU Vice-Rector Ara Yeremyan.

They highlighted the importance of knowledge on reducing disaster risks in the life of each person, especially in in course of life and professional activities  of future pedagogues as the protection of the environment and people themselves is mainly conditioned with the of lack of awareness and information

Summarising the opinions and suggestions of training lecturers and the trainees, the Vice-Rector noticed that the existing shortcomings and gaps would be corrected if the trainings were of continuous nature.

Likewise, the Heads of Departments- Training Lecturers Karine Danielyan, Laura Asatryan, Mels Mkrtumyan, Hakob Grigoryan and the Head of the Research Centre also discussed the training results.

They made a suggestion to allocate more practical classes for the trainees to enable them to control emergency situations, as well as to have these trainings on continuous basis; similarly they added that the nature of information should be perceived, understood and emphasized.

In his turn, the Head of the Department of First Medical Aid, Emergency Situations and Civil Protection Hakob Grigoryan stated that the students had more knowledge in orienting in emergency situations, theory and practice of first medical aid than the lecturers did; such disproportion should be avoided as tomorrow’s teachers are in hands of the lecturers.

We would also like to mention that the trainings on “Strengthening DRR in the ASPU Curriculum” were funded by the Core Department of the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection and within the scope the UNICEF Project on Ensuring Stability of Disaster Risks Reduction.
