The Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) is hosting an international scientific-practical conference for the sixteenth time, and it is organized by the Chair of Foreign Literature.
The event is being held both online and face-to-face and has gathered lecturers and Master’s students from the top universities of Armenia, as well as the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
Vice-Rector of the ASPU for Education Mariam Ispiryan highlighted the importance of the already traditional conference and voiced hope that it will be ongoing.
The Vice-Rector notes that the conference is being held in times that are difficult for Armenia and said that it serves as a good opportunity to review personal and work-related priorities. Ispiryan added that each of the attendees must find the strength to implement his or her plans in the sectors of science and education.
Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Tigran Mikayelyan has become familiar with the anthology of materials of the conference and notes that the topics are interesting and instructive.
Mikayelyan also attaches importance to the participation of foreign colleagues and considers their academic viewpoints as valuable, yet regrets to note that the countries experiencing bad times have been randomly included and there is misunderstanding and conflict.
Tigran Mikayelyan believes holding such initiatives is extremely important, even in the most difficult times. Citing academician Dmitry Likhachov, he adds that it is the duty of all of us to be intellectually advanced and that we should not miss the opportunity to find something interesting in a place where it seems there is nothing interesting. After all, it is possible to understand words by loving the particular text and the literary works.
In their speeches, the participants of the international scientific-practical conference presented a number of issues in literature, unknown scientific works and works that have yet to be published, touched upon issues related to translation and literary connections, the Russian influence on Armenian literature and the relationships, presenting Armenian and Russian literatures as an inseparable part of world literature.
Head of the Chair of Foreign Literature Ruzan Tadevosyan gladly notes that the inter-university conference stopped being a university-wide conference and became an international one a long time ago.
What brought the participants together was a common issue — literary connections, translation and the key issues of Russian literature.
The innovation of this year’s conference is the fact that Spanish literature is also presented for the first time and in Spanish.
Professor Tadevosyan attaches importance to the conference from the perspective of printing of academic collections (the materials are used in the practice of lecturing). He also attached importance to “The First Steps in Science”, which provides Bachelor’s students and predominantly Master’s students with the opportunity to test their strengths in the field of science, as well as “Pages of Poetry” where
Henrik Edoyan’s poems have been translated this time.
The conference featured an interesting discussion, followed by a question-and-answer session.
