An international scientific conference entitled "Contemporary Issues in Primary Education" was held at Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) on April 2.

During the hybrid event, reports were presented by participants from Armenian HEIs, as well as from Russian and U.S. educational institutions.

In her opening speech, Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education Heghine Khachatryan emphasized the importance of cooperative pedagogy/learning, saying it is necessary that teachers and learners work together in confronting and solving modern problems and challenges.

The dean added that the Faculty has established a good tradition of organizing scientific conferences dedicated to the contemporary issues in primary education, which attract more and more participants every year.

On behalf of the ASPU Rector, Vice-Rector for Education and Science Mariam Ispiryan welcomed the initiative, noting that the conferences always address important issues and focus on topical issues in primary education.
The vice-rector added that the current challenges make them review the priorities and, now more than ever, have a strong school, a well-established educational system and a society with a strong value system wishing to build the future today. She added that the cornerstones of that society are the present and future pedagogues.

Mariam Ispiryan stressed the importance of active cooperation between students and lecturers, their involvement, response of and cooperation with international educational institutions.

New technologies, approaches, methods and standards, requirements and textbooks… In this context, Armine Mikayelyan, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education, considers the development and progress of science impossible.

She also highlighted the fact that the conference was held before the defense of theses, adding that in the subgroups the students would present their reports together with their professors. Also, the work of subgroups would be regulated jointly by students and professors.

The international conference continued in three subgroups. In their reports, the participants presented the results of their research, referring to alternative and innovative approaches to primary education, the use of modern technologies in education, as well as pedagogical and psychological problems of personality development of younger schoolchildren.

In addition, the speakers underscored the importance of improving teaching methods of the subjects taught in elementary schools, the use of media technologies in preschool educational institutions and elementary schools, current challenges and issues in inclusive education at a primary level, the need for capacity building in the modern education system, etc.
