The solemn closing of a two-day international conference entitled “Life and Philosophy” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Academician, Professor Georg Brutian was held at Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU).
Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Associate Professor at the Chair of Philosophy and Logic, summed up the saturated and meaningful activity of the two-day event. He stressed that the conference was attended by more than 70 researchers and scientists from Armenia, Russia, the US, Greece, Romania and Hungary.
Mr. Hovhannisyan added that 53 reports were presented in two days which referred to the theory of knowledge, communication, argumentation and rhetoric, pedagogy and psychology and other issues. “It is noteworthy that the conference has brought together not only reputable scientists, who are well known in the international scientific community, but also young researchers, who are performing their first firm steps in science. Most of the reports discussed during the conference will be published in “Imastaser” scientific journal of the Chair,” he said.
In his closing speech, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan also emphasized the importance of public lectures delivered by four acclaimed philosophers within the framework of the international conference, as well as the seminar discussion conducted for university lecturers by Academician, Professor of Saint Petersburg State University of Economics Kajik Ohanyan who focused on current issues of transformation and management in the system of higher education. He also stressed the importance of renaming the Chair of Philosophy and Logic after Academician Georg Brutian. “The representative composition of participants and reactions are the best evidence of the continuation of Brutian’s activity and legacy,” he stressed.
The pupil of the great academician [Georg Brutian] described his teacher as a person ‘for whom there was no life without philosophy and no philosophy without life.’ “The lessons of life given by him were quite interesting. He took delight in science, his pupils and was always proud of their success and achievements.”
“Psychology has confirmed that talent is versatile and multifaceted. Great is Academician Brutian’s contribution to science, research and pedagogy,” ASPU Vice-rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan said. Then, emphasizing the importance of the event, she quoted the words of Professor Robert Jijyan, another pupil of the academician, which were dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Gevorg Brutian. “He [Brutian] stood out among others not only with the versatility of his talent, but also with the depth of his ideas and inaccessibility of his achievements. These qualities are characteristic of true geniuses, rather than talents shining for a short time. The academician is David the Invincible of our days not only with the vector of his interests with logical and philosophical orientation and a wide range of scientific achievements, as well as with international victories and universal glory.”
After her speech, Srbuhi Gevorgyan handed over certificates of participation to the conference participants.
The closing ceremony ended with a concert with the participation of students and lecturers of the Faculty of Culture.
