Within the framework of cooperation between Liana Chobanyan, Head of the Debate Club of the Faculty of Primary Education, ЕС Erasmus and Centre for Additional Education and Debate Development, one student of the Faculty and four pupils of the ASPU Base College participated in the forum “CROSSING BOUNDARIES: YOUTH ENGAGEMENT THROUGH DEBATE.”
From 21 to 29 August, representatives from Armenia, Russia, Georgia, Ukraine and Belarus were in Lithuania, where they visited the parliament, were introduced to the country, its people, historical and cultural sites, including the medieval castle in Trakai, recreation areas across the country, etc.
An exhibition dedicated to different countries was organized on the third day of the forum. During the event, the ASPU delegates – Henrik Umroyan, Ashot Tovmasyan, Ani Ghulyan, Mariam Gasparyan, Mari Gharibyan, a MA student of the Faculty of Primary Education, led by Lecturer Liana Chobanyan, presented the Armenian cuisine, culture, jokes, as well as the Pedagogical University, handing the attendees booklets telling about the educational institution.
During the visit, the participants from different countries were divided into eight ‘international’ groups, which helped them get acquainted with their foreign peers, acquire new friends and strengthen their knowledge of foreign languages.
The groups also participated in interactive workshops on various topics, which were conducted by the heads of Debate Clubs representing the six participating countries of the forum. Liana Chobanyan, the head of the Armenian delegation was among them.
The young people were assigned to conduct surveys in the Lithuanian city of Druskinikay in order to learn about the social life and problems of the local people. Based on the results of their findings, the groups wrote programmes, offering solutions to the existing problems and presenting them later in debates.
At the end of the forum, demonstrative debates were organized at the Centre of Culture, which were attended by the city authorities. They heard the approaches and proposals of the new generation with great interest and attention.
“The pupils were trying to reveal problems in Druskinikay and propose solutions to them. The atmosphere was attractive and encouraging: smart and bright young people were trying to better the city. Later they will try to change the entire world. An agreement was reached to implement similar programmes in Georgia, Ukraine and Armenia as well,” Liana Chobanyan said in conversation with old.aspu.am.
