After the World premiere in Los Angeles, film “The Promise” telling about the Armenian Genocide is shown at cinemas all over the World today.
The freshmen of the Pedagogical University, Department of Journalism had a chance to watch the movie, the Director of which was meeting and giving advice to future journalists and directors in Yerevan several years ago.
The Oscar winner Director Terry George set a love story as a basis of the film that developed during the events of the Armenian Genocide in 1915.
The Irish Screenwriter, Director Terry George, who had been working in Hollywood for many years and who won the Oscar in 2012, visited the Pedagogical University many years ago.
When speaking about his origin, about the mass killings in Ruanda, he opened up that the visit to Armenia had a deep meaning for him, and that the power of two nations, cultural values and victories were based on their survival from Genocide.
Few people know that back in those days he had already planned to create the big work that is on our screens today. After his trip to Armenia he was going to visit Turkey, and to get acquainted with the Western Armenia.
At that time he stayed in Armenia for a very short time and managed to visit only the Pedagogical University. During the meeting with students, the Hollywood screenwriter spoke about modern cinematography, the functions of the Mass Media, and mentioned that in our days they were granting wide scope of opportunities to discover the happenings of the World and often the historical events.
“Introduce your own history by using modern technologies, particularly the internet and art”, said Terry George.
The Oscar winning Director was awarded with the Pedagogical University’s 90th anniversary symbolic medal.
