Discussing Disability Reforms

A round-table discussion was held at the Pedagogical University relating to the reforms taking place in support of people with disabilities in the Republic of Armenia and challenges of international classification of the function of the World Health Organisation.

Among the participants of the discussion were the international experts of disabilities Statis Triantaphilu, Andreas Karistinos, Representatives of the UN Children Foundation and Development Programmes, the Head of the Department of Issues of People with Disabilities of the RA Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs Anna Hakobyan, as well as the teaching-professorial team of the ASPU Faculty of Special Education and the Chair of Sociology and Social Work.

During the meeting issues referring to the structure of assessment tools for the needs of people with disabilities, their application, as well as importance of standardisation thereof in Armenia were discussed.

The MLSA Head of the Department of Issues of People with Disabilities Anna Hakobyan mentioned that the role of the professionals teaching in the sphere of special pedagogy is important and decisive in the process of standardisation and modernisation of this set of tools.

Likewise, Anna Hakobyan highlighted the role of the graduates of the Pedagogical University in the processes of services delivered to people with disabilities, highly assessing the work of the students with whom the Ministry had conducted activities within the scopes of various projects.

During the round-table discussion an agreement was made regarding the development and implementation of future steps the priority of which was also marked by the international experts.
