Today, the Rector of the Pedagogical University Rouben Mirzakhanyan had a working meeting with the Heads of the University Chairs; the issue on the meeting agenda referred to the organization of internships.
The Rector highlighted that in the upcoming academic year internships will be the main target of the Pedagogical institution which should be treated with joint efforts by solving or clearly pointing at the methods and directions required for the effective organization of internships.
“Discussions at the Rector’s office, the three-year work with the experts from the University of Oulu in Finland once again state the fact that internships have extremely important role in the learning process. A proof of this is the innovative system of exchanging the final score of the course of “Pedagogy” with the results of internship in the ASPU qualification examinations.
During the meeting Rouben Mirzakhanyan did not hide that just like in the past, in the current times also internships continued to be considered as mere formalities; however, the time had come to give the duty of organizing internships to leading professionals to make fundamental changes in the field and to re-organize the process with a new approach.
“Practical steps have already been made; five years ago internships were organized in 200 schools in the RA, in the previous academic year their number reached 40; while this year our students will spend their internships at 15 best secondary educational establishments including private schools.
Furthermore, the Head of the Internship Centre Vahan Sargsyan presented a report about the internship organization process, the current reforms, completed steps and events.
The latter introduced the time scale for the organization of internships, spoke about the observations of the process.
“To keep up with the compliance to the new requirements, we need to review the course description of interviews, to link them with theoretical classes, course and individual assignments, to regularly discuss the students’ internship processes, as well as to cooperate with institutions hosting internships in the scope of professional orientation, joint educational events, develop methodological guidelines for the improvement of internships and other issues, etc.”, Vahan Sargsyan briefly presented his suggestions on the improvement of internships.
Some of those present introduced their ideas and recommendations for the improvement of the internship processes at the same time presenting the activities for the internship Methodists and students during the holidays.
What is more, the Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan highlighted the importance of the involvement and participation of the Deans and Heads of Chairs in the internship processes emphasizing that is was another step to analyse the contextual part of the process.
The continuation of the discussions over this topic will also continue at the hall of the Faculty of Culture tomorrow. Methodists from all Faculties will participate in an expanded meeting session on improvement of internship.
