Education quality improvement in Armenian HEIs is important for EU

A sitting dedicated to Erasmus+ programme: “Key Action 2 - Capacity Building in the Field of Higher Education” was held at Armenian State Pedagogical University within the framework of Erasmus+ meetings.

ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan emphasized the fact that the coordinators of the programme are Armenian universities and one of them is the Pedagogical University. “We treat the process with great responsibility as one of the most important conditions of internalization of higher educational institutions (HEIs) is the provision of new quality education,” the rector said. He added that internalization also implies the presence of foreign students and professors at the university and corresponding activities.

Ruben Mirzakhanyan stressed that it implies a different approach towards curriculum requirements, and the Pedagogical University has determination and potential to solve the tasks set before it.

Edgar Aleksanyan, Head of the Department of Higher and Postgraduate Professional Education of the Ministry of Education and Science, emphasized the university’s involvement in the programme, and, speaking about the EU Tempus programme, said, “There are numerous successful examples within the framework of cooperation. The programme enables the teaching staff and students to develop mobility strategy and long-term cooperation. It is also a good opportunity of cooperation on local levels. In the context of the Bologna Process, Tempus programme helps Armenian HEIs to develop the administrative structure, educational programmes, train staff members, ensures student mobility, collaboration with stakeholders, etc.”

Speaking about the Erasmus + programme, Caroline Steiner, a representative at the EU Delegation to Armenia, said it is a EU programme for education, training, youth and sport intended for 2014-2020.

In her speech, she underlined that improvement of education quality in Armenia is very important for the European Union.

In her speech, Lana Kalova, Coordinator of Erasmus+ Armenian Office, spoke about meetings that form part of the information campaign.

She presented the new programmes planned to be implemented under the project, as well as the opportunities for participation given to HEIs. “Each project is a new challenge, and the difficulties are easily surmounted if there is teamwork,” she stressed.

Kristina Tsaturyan, Head of the ASPU International Cooperation Unit, an Erasmus+ higher education reform expert, said in her speech that Armenian State Pedagogical University has actively been involved in such programmes since 2012, and more than 100 lecturers of the university have already been trained under the programme. “It is very effective as it allows [participants] to get acquainted with the European experience as well as transfer the experience of our country. As a result, we are enabled to understand the needs of our educational system and, considering national needs, adjust them to our environment, making them more favorable and useful for us."

In her report entitled “How to Apply? Cooperation Aimed at Innovations,” she presented the basics, idea, experience, proposals, content, technical formulation, logical structure of the programme.

The reporters also provided participants with practical information about scholarships and grants offered by Erasmus + programme, gave advice for the effective management and implementation of projects, etc.
The meeting was attended by representatives of administrative and teaching staffs of Armenian HEIs, employers, representatives of public organizations supporting professional education.

Information days in Yerevan are an integral part of Erasmus+ information campaign which aim to address the key activities of the programme separately.
