Suren Danielyan, Head of the ASPU Chair of New and Modern Armenian Literature and Director of “Spyurk” (Diaspora) Scientific and Educational Centre visited Beirut, Lebanon, from January 7 to 21 at the invitation of Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I.
On the sidelines of his visit, Suren Danielyan presented the works of Diaspora authors, specifically Constantinople-based Armenian writers (Petros Durian, Levon Shant, Vahan Tekeyan, Zahrat, Zareh Khrakhuni, Zaven Piperyan and Roper Hattechian) at the Armenian Studies courses organized in Antelias. Zhirayr Danielyan, a renowned scholar and philologist, Professor of Armenian Literature at Dprevank, was in charge of the courses.
While in Lebanon, Suren Danielyan also gave a series of lecturers for pupils and teachers of Dprevank, Bikfaya. He also visited the “Bird's Nest,” a famous orphanage in Jbeil.
On the same day, he addressed the Beirut-based Armenian intellectuals in the “Pyunik” hall of “Azdak” daily, speaking on the theme “Spyurk” Scientific and Educational Centre and Issues in Literature and Culture of Western Armenians.” Later, he paid officials visits to the editorial offices of “Azdak,” “Zartonk” and “Ararat” newspapers.
On January 20, Suren Danielyan presented the works of famous Diaspora writers Zareh Khrakhuni and Roper Hattechian at the AGBU Ehramdjian Centre (Head is Hambik Martirosian, Editor-in-Chief of “Khosnak” magazine).
The professor invited pupils and students to Armenia to take undergraduate and graduate courses at the ASPU, assuring them that the Pedagogical University will give them an opportunity to complete and finalize their knowledge in Armenology (Armenian Studies).
Suren Danielyan was also received by Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I. The two men discussed avenues for cooperation with the ASPU and prospects of education for Western Armenians.
