How to protect students and teaching staff during a fire? On September 5, a fire prevention and evacuation drill was organized at ASPU on the initiative of the Chair of First Aid, Emergencies and Civil Protection. The event was dedicated to the Emergency Workers Day, which is celebrated on September 4.
The goal of the drill was to increase students' awareness and preparedness and develop their practical skills in emergency situations.
Perch Karapetyan, Lecturer of the Chair, showed fire safety measures, main types of fire extinguishers, importance and methods of their use, safety rules, conditions and methods requiring an evacuation in various emergency situations, shared tips for correct orientation and handling emergencies and answered students' questions.
The theoretical part was followed by a fire drill with a powder fire extinguisher in the yard of one of the university's buildings, during which the students enhanced their practical knowledge. "Tomorrow's teacher should know safety rules and be able to apply them at school. They are obliged to think about the health and safety of schoolchildren and teachers," Perch Karapetyan said in a conversation with old.aspu.am.
Narine Sahakyan, Head of the Chair of First Aid, Emergencies and Civil Protection, says every year the Chair organizes various events to mark the Day of MES Workers.
They [events] have educational and practical significance; they help students show competent behaviour in emergency situations, and form skills to take protective actions and measures in response. “ASPU professors conduct the course with a high level of preparedness and readiness. Our students, too, have profound knowledge", added Narine Sahakyan.
The series of events dedicated to the day ended with a lecture by Gohar Musheghyan, Associate Professor of the same Chair.
