En plein air: Children paint in the open air

First-grade pupils of ASPU’s Primary School N57 had an outdoor painting class. In their paintings entitled “My City,” the pupils expressed their impressions and feelings about the city.

Each and every passer-by stood on the way to admire the easels, painters' wear, painting supplies and happy voices of the children.

Talking to old.aspu.am, form teacher Tatevik Abrahamyan said the school pays special attention to aesthetic education and attempts are made to introduce it in the teaching of different subjects.

“Besides giving aesthetic pleasure to children, the move will instill [in them] deep love for nature. We shall do everything possible to make similar initiatives more frequent,” she said, adding that both the children and their parents were very excited. They were so delighted that showed up maximally prepared for the excursion-lesson.

Tatevik Abrahamyan added that they would pay attention to the proposals of pupils and their parents throughout the school year and organize different events for schoolchildren.

Syuzanna Khachikyan, a teacher of Fine Arts, says aesthetisc taste should be developed in children from an early age and the organization of plein air painting lessons makes the process even more effective.

“The aim of plein air painting was to gather children in beautiful surroundings where they would have an opportunity to see the beauty of the environment and feel connected to nature,” Syuzanna Khachikyan said adding that exhibitions will be organized to showcase children’s works every week or month.

Zhanna Sargsyan got familiarized with the surroundings of the park and then painted whatever had captured her attention most - fountains, trees and colorful flowers. In conversation with old.aspu.am, the little girl confessed that she loves Yerevan, especially its parks, which are beautiful in all seasons of the year.
Edmon Hasratyan took a painting course before attending the primary school. During today’s plein air étude he painted the Armenian tricolor and hurried to explain the meaning of each colour. When asked about his favorite place in Yerevan, Edmon said confidently that ‘he likes the entire city though he also likes seas.’

The plein air painting lesson organized in a park ended with fairy tale reading, games and walking.
Let us add that the photos taken during the lesson will be displayed in a separate exhibition, which will be opened on the occasion of Independence Day.
